I always find myself caught between the Diagnostic Happy and the Oversimplifiers.

Have you eve been a party to wild, irrational mood swings?  It ain't fun.

We all experience mood swings.  Part of the human experience.

Personally, I don't care for labels (bipolar disorder) .  'Labeling' has become a sad necessity for diagnostic, medicinal and insurance purposes IMHO however.

If you have ever lived up close and personal with someone who has pathological mood swings you may become a believer.

you're right, bipolar isn't real. it's just a label someone gave one day because it was easier than really figuring out what was going on.

some people's mood swings are a lot worse than others. that's what's real.

What if there is no figuring out what's going on? What if its just even... kinda loopy.... and really fucking tweaked? Then what? Live with the pendalum of desperately suicidal and boundless mania, alienate everyone in the process? What if you have responsibilities but you are so fucking whacked without meds? So what do you do? Swing 'til you die?

HOW DO YOU GET TO ROOT OF PROBLEM? MAYBE THERE IS NONE. Maybe you are just biologically screwed label or no label. So, why not medicate?

I didn't say don't medicate. medicate all you want.

I'm saying that when you label people bipolar, you're pointing to [at least] two people and saying - "you have the same problem. you're bipolar". when really, their problems are dramatically different.

Well, I agree to a certain extent. Everyone is an individual. And I hate how once you become labeled, every reaction or emotion you have becomes a "bipolar moment."   That sucks.

It's just that if you do have moods that swing precariously, instead of moods that just persist (depression, etc), it helps to have better suited treatment options.  But who the hell knows anymore.

Actually Bipolar is very real. Have you ever stood on a bridge for breakfast and been ecstatic by dinner? Well until you have you should keep your broad generalizations and shove them up your ass.

I couldn't live without my medication.

I concur.  I am not bipolar, but I know a couple of people who are.  This is no joke, nor even an extreme form of maniac depression, as it used to be called before it became more prevalent.  This latter issue of increased prevalence is also of some concern.  Environmental insult?  Who knows, not my area of expertise.  But, suffice it to say, people who have been diagnosed as bipolar have some serious shit to contend with.

Haha you had a bipolar swing before you even finished writing your post. Do yourself and everyone a favor, toss yourself off that bridge next time.
