TWO teenagers who wanted to experience murder told police it "felt right" to strangle a friend and bury her body in a shallow grave beneath her West Australian home.

The 17-year-old girls, who cannot be named due to their age, today faced a sentencing hearing in Perth Children's Court after pleading guilty to murdering Eliza Jane Davis in the small coal mining town of Collie on June 18, 2006.

As the girls sat stony-faced in court today, Prosecutor Simon Stone said they had confessed that after partying with Eliza on the Saturday night they decided to kill her.

"Sunday morning me and (her) woke up, and we were just talking, and for some reason we just decided to kill her," one of the girls told police in her interview.

"We just did it because we felt like it, it is hard to explain," the other girl said.

"I knew we had wanted to kill someone before.

"We knew it was wrong, but it didn't feel wrong at all, it just felt right."

The girls planned their attack and changed into old clothes.

One of them snuck up behind Eliza as she was reading, wrapped speaker wire twice around her throat and quickly tightened it as the other held her down, trying to press a chemical soaked cloth into her mouth.

"She started not being able to get her breath, and we just kept going," one of the girls said.

"She was just yelling at us `What the f**k, what are you doing' .. `Oh you freaks, what's wrong with you psychos."

Mr Stone said they chose to strangle Eliza because one of them had to return to Perth that afternoon and they wanted a quick and "non-messy" killing.

"As our friend, we did not really want her to suffer," one told police.

"We didn't really expect to get away with it.

"We were willing to take the risk."

The girls regretted the fuss the killing caused but neither felt remorse for their dead friend, Mr Stone said.

"If she had died another way it probably would have bothered me ... but it just did not," one girl said.

The girls reported Eliza missing after they buried her and pretended to help her family look for the dead girl.

The girls turned themselves in several days later, walking into separate police stations and directing authorities to where they buried her body.

Mr Stone told the court the girls had no remorse and were holding back on the reason behind their cold-blooded, premeditated, sadistic killing.

"It is a mystery your honour, what happened."

He said the girls had discussed killing someone else and one had prepared for homicide by killing two kittens.

"Whilst together (they) will continue to pose some risk to others in custody."

Mr Stone called for sentences of life in prison.

The hearing continues tomorrow.

I doubt its that simple..as psychopaths...Im guessin some real weird home life issues...its sad and scary.

Also, they are saying everythng they are programmed by society and the police to say

"we knew it was wrong"
I mean...did thes girls sound like the brightest bulbs to you? I dont think they have any understanding of what they did..

I think these girls should be in a asylum not a prison...We could actually learn alot from them in the sense of how NOT to raise a child...but unfortunetly thats not how it works...these kids will be in prison. Really people who want to murder children shold goto work for programs then they can murder without remorse to theri hearts content and not have to worry about the inevitability of going to prison

I heard that their home lives were horrible. Not that this is an excuse.

They're pretty CLEARLY mentally ill, if they keep aping "we knew it was wrong" but then... rather clearly demonstrate again that they... didnt know it was wrong when they did it... they didn't know it was wrong, or at least do not have the best facilities in terms of decision making.

In any case, they're going to not be a danger to society anymore, no matter what happens, but they're going to get abused and fucked up in a prison and be traded for sex among the inmates for a long time, most likely, not treated humanely.

Ugh.

No, it isn't. Just ask any felon on death row.

Prison may in fact be where they will be happiest. Plenty of people in prison are very content to be there and do better there than they ever did on the "outside".

We had a similar case here once. Different, b/c it involved more girls - was more planned out and there was more of a motive; and it was even more vicious; but similar in that it was girl on girl murder; and there was a lack of remorse and a coldness to the killers that was real disturbing. They picked up the young victim to go out partying; had her enemy hiding in the back seat (if I recall correctly) and then they strangled her, beat her, tortured her with a tire iron and then set her on fire.

Like these girls, the home lives of the killers was said to be dysfunctional - tho what I recall hearing about, sounded more or less on the normal side if dysfunction. What was the case with these girls? The home life was bad how so?

Has there been any mention yet of them dabbling with the occult?  I don't know about in Australia, but this is a common finding with such crimes in the states. Our killers, for example, were all into playing witch. Had a little shrine or sorts; had the pentagram on the floor of some abandoned building, burnt candels and cast spells and so on. Others in recent memory were into the vampire thing. The man who was my own "Stranger beside Me", had recently began to play with Satan worship when he deicide to begin his murders. I guess he was a serial killer - but he got caught right away. Jeffery Dalmer was into Satan worship. David Burkowitz (son of sam) likewise, at the time of his killings. Such senseless, vicious and motiveless murders often have an occultic component. Would they report on such a finding in Australia? Or would they tend to minimize it as a non-issue?

I said killing them would be more humane, not leaving someone on death row for 20 years.

We dont have the death penalty here Nilanthic so not much chance of that.
There has been no mention of the girls "dabbling" with anything either Buzz.  Most of the kids here into the occult are pretty harmless and want to either
A) irritate their familes- if said familes are religious
B) follow something new agey
C) just give something out of mainstream a try
They generally tend to be well loved children from the suburbs with bright futrues and scarcely a care in the world.
I think ithis is one of those rare inexplicable horrors which happen once in a blue moon and leaves the community gasping with shock. Who can really know what would drive someone to do this?

Has anyone seen the movie Jawbreaker or Mean Girls? I think it was Jawbreaker, a teen comedy kind of movie, had this same type of plot, where a group of girls kills their friend.

Oh I know. Didn't mean to seem to be saying otherwise. Just as the average (the vast majority) of the mentally ill never hurt anyone - if you don't include themselves.  Its just that very often, when you do have this sort of horrible crime - there has been some involvement with some aspect of the occult. I just wondered if there was any evidence in this case - and weather it would even be discussed if so.
