Directions to Morgan Yacht
« Reply #15 on: April 09, 2007, 11:43:16 AM »
Woof, got swamped with work and was out of town.  I found the Morgan Yacht building.  Looks like it has been acquired by a company that takes security very seriously.  There is construction going on right now.  The windows and doors near the corner entrance are being closed in with cement block.  There are large concrete pillars going around the perimeter, which appears that it is going to be a fence or security barrier of some kind.

I'll tell you what was eerie, and that is the single story building just to the north.  I remember being able to see that building.  It now is blue and white.

I was trying to remember how many large bay doors their were.  On one side of the building, there appears to be two, and on the other, just one.  I didn't remember just how large the building was, in part because we rarely went to that back warehouse area.

I still need to find the Milton Roy building.  Does anyone have an address or directions?  Thanks.

Milton Roy Building

Milton Roy lies off of a snippet of a road called Sheen Drive.  It is north of the Sears and Roebuck Annex Building on Park Street.  From Tyrone Blvd. go West past Walmart.  There is a BIG ass intersection there now.  Pinellas Trail has an overpass there.  Right lane turn, head north, Target to left, Wal-Mart to right, shitloads of traffic all around.  There is a road dumping lots of piece of shit cars onto road.  46th Avenue rednecks, get your ass in left lane now!
Sears Outlet parking lot on left.  Slow the fuck down and turn left onto next open roadway median on left hand side of the road.  The sign on the post should say Sheen Drive.  Stay to the left and continue through the parking lot to end.  You should be able to recognize all the water pipes and shit hanging off the sides of the building.  Milton Roy used to make water meters and shit back in the 60's.  The building is now owned by Silor Optical last I heard and they make Contact Lenses and custom lenses.  Go there on a Saturday between 9 and 11 am and you may meet the caretaker in the parking lot.  I think his name is either Charlie or Gus (Ginger knows) and he is pretty cool if you approach him right.  He knows all about the Straight Days.  Last car I saw him in was a golden brown Ford Taurus station wagon in Feb of 2003.  I would definately not go there during business hours during the week.

Inside a warehouse behind Tyrone Mall
we walked in darkness, kept hitting the wall.
I took the time to feel for the door,
I had been \"treated\" but what the hell for?

85DJ:  Thanks again for the outstanding directions!  You have an incredible recollection and knowledge of the buildings.  When I was put in the program in 1978, I had just recently turned 13 years old, and I was from out of County.  I had only been to any part of Pinellas County a handful of times my entire life, so I really had no references to where I was at.  My lack of knowlege with Pinellas, combined with the complete sleep deprivation, resulted in a very poor recollection of how the buildings looked, and where they were.   Now the inside, I remember.

Thanks for taking the time to assist me.

Told ya that ya might wanna re-think that whole "peeing on the building thing" :skull:

85DJ has an uncanny memory when it comes to details and steet name etc...I was stunned at the WHO concert...absolute blast, have most of it on my trusty cybershot...movie setting

I had a week from hell myself....no need to elaborate here/now. My offer still stands. I woud be cool with having lunch and head over to the Milton Roy building. I think 85DJ can atest that it has a nicer area for reflection....It's a heavy trip.

Keep me posted on a time range you can make it down here, and I will see what I can do to make the time.

Namaste

Huh? Look, I find this all very flattering, but please quit attributing omniscience to me.

My Mistake, someone from Sarasota Straight that I talked to good while back, does'nt really matter what the guys name is.  He'll stop and talk if you approach him right.

I myself prefer the water approach.  Best way is to go to War Veterans Park off Tyrone after it turns into Bay Pines Blvd.  Go all the way to the east boat ramps and put in a canoe or kayak.  Paddle out and under overpass.  Look for channel markers near the middle of bridge.  It is a real shallow draft and lots of rocks and shit so be careful.  Once into the Cross Bayou area, head through the mangroves east and you should start seeing the backs of the buildings.  Milton Roy stands out pretty good.  From the water, you can see the back doors of Big Group and see the caged in paddock area where Chris Casselor used to hold guys rap some times.  If you are REAL adventurous you may even find a place to touch ground and climb out and walk around.
