My daughter is 14 and is currently struggling with ODD and ADD, and a substance abuse problem. She says that she hates me and I think that she is in need of an intervention. I have been seeing the success stories on shows such as Dr. Phil. I really wish my daughter was like that. I have tried to be a mom and turn her life around, but she thinks that I don't know anything about parenting. She is very depressed all of the time, and she has threatened to kill herself on multiple occasions. I want my daughter just to be normal like all of the other kids. I heard from a friend that HLA is a very good school and has a very high success rate. I would really just like my daughter to succeed in society.

Parent, what did you hear exactly about HLA? What were the positive attributes listed if you don't mind me asking. I personally had a less than positive expereince there.

I heard that HLA was a wonderful school with a great team of staff. I heard that there is compassion directed toward your child rather than hate. I also heard that they have great dorms and facilities. I really want my daughter to go there. I have seen pictures and the school looks like a perfect fit.

Parent let me first bring up "that great team of staff" you mentioned. What do you feel would be the appropriate qualifications for staff members at such a location? How many do you feel would be appropriate?

I would like to have certified counselors and teachers. The page for HLA says that they employ 45 full time counselors. I am really happy to see a school that does that.

Yep, one of Ginger's things, designed for people who tell others what they "sh0uld do".   "You sh0uld" gets changed to "I want you to".
Same with "You need to".

You can trick the system though, as I just did above, by replacing the letter O with a zero. There are other ways to.
