Effects of Drugs and Alcohol on Spiders

That was amusing. You know - there really was such a study done once with spiders and LSD. The spider normally built this beautiful and highly organized web. While on acid, it built a web more like a snarled knot; random and completely disorganized. I have pictures in an old psychology book. So, we know spiders are effected by LSD - and that the effect creates a strange web; but what else does this tell us? Not much. Its not like we know the spider was tripping; and if it was tripping, we can't know if it was pleasant for the spider of awful. We can know what a spider might dream about, never mind experience while tripping. It is something to contemplate but we can never know. One thing I did notice - its web while on LSD looked very like a black widow's normal web - so does that mean a black widow is always tripping? Or that the wood spider thought it was a black widow when on the acid?

It must be cool to be able to spin a web like that. I wonder if you could give a spider enough LSD and train it to do portraits. You could set him up with a little stand, and he could do tourists portraits by the shore for two bits a gander. Ill have to look into training spiders. If a scientists starting dabbing me with drugs like that I'd be pleasantly surprised!

I used to watch spiders and wonder what it would be like to be one. Wake up, do some macramé, meditate for awhile, eat something, wrap a meal for later, hang out and meditate some more, maybe about doing some more macremé later, maybe about what the lizards are thinking... meditate on that while doing some more macremé....
