New round of layoffs
« Reply #30 on: December 04, 2006, 10:17:30 AM »
So they had the choice of either increasing their work load and hours, doing task that are outside of their job description, or continue to do the job they were hired (and contracted for) and take a pay cut?

Yeah......sounds like someone is in breach of contract. Give Marla a call I'm sure she'd be glad to help.

Here's some interesting news...

Beginning January 1st, the teachers will be coming to campus at 6:30am for morning wake-up in the dorms.  This is reportedly in exchange for NOT reducing their pay.

This makes things interesting.  It is my understanding that, under labor laws in GA (and Fed I think), that since the teachers were not given pay cuts, but rather given extra duties, that the pay cuts for OTHER employees become illegal.

If your pay was cut at HLA, I strongly recommend that you contact the proper authorities in GA and the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board).  You probably have a case.

I have been contacted by an HLA teacher with a correction on this matter.  Here is what s/he said:

"Teachers did indeed recieve the 10% pay cut and were told they would be facing the new schedule in addition to the pay cuts. The new schedule began Nov. 27. So, they are doing more work with less money."

Happy Holidays, teachers!

Why does this not surprise me?

So let's see if we can't sum this up about right.

You all work in a place where......

you are currently earning less than when you were originally hired.

you work load has increased dramatically.

you are subject to routine interegations

you can be expected to disobey the law and refuse to cooperate with state and federal authorities.

you are surrounded with potentially dangerous individuals.

if you quit you can be fined thousands of dollars for "breach of contract" while the other party changes the terms of the contract on a whim.

If you speak out against the company they will sue the shit out of you.

You've had your benefits slowly stripped away.

Does that about cover it?

Golly who wouldn't want to work there? It sounds like a dream job! Sign me up!

Richard Prow - gone.

Special Ed teacher - gone.

Gookie answered the first question.  The answer to the second one is "yes."

Hey DJ and little Matrix man... I know what an IEP is...im asking you what in the hell does doing an IEP mean...as in whose gonna be doing the IEP... What does this statement mean as in your implication is that no one will be doing an IEP after Harper leaves?

they must be done by a special education teacher for special needs kids.  no special ed teacher, no iep's.

someone who knows what an iep is also should know the difference between "whose" and "who's".  food for thought.  i sincerely hope you're not a teacher.

Wow they finally got rid of Danny PERVel? Bet all the girls are breathing a sigh of relief.

Sorry I've been gone so long. Had my son though! 11/29/06. 7 lbs 9 oz. Trying to read up on everything I've missed. Sounds like things are really falling apart... Can't say we didn't see it coming.

Keep it coming, boys (and gals, Deb)...
