CAICA and It's Death List
« on: October 29, 2006, 12:48:22 PM »
Personally, I am confused by what appears to be the promotion of *wilderness therapy, referral services and transporters on CAICA while at the same time using the deaths of children to underscore that children have been killed in private UNREGULATED programs (there is even a song called "Children are Crying/Dying" on the CAICA website that references the death of Aaron Bacon who died at a wilderness therapy program).

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that CAICA is sending out a very mixed message?   What is CAICA?  What (or who) are they advocating for?  How can one claim children are crying and dying while at the same time promote people and services connected with the very industry responsible for their deaths?  In my opinion, this isn't just confusing, but downright disingenuous.

Thank you.

Yeah, it's kind of weird. When I scroll half way down the page, my screen shows pictures of kids on the right who died in programs, then in the left hand column it says the advocate of the month is sue scheff. I would hope the owner of the website at least has the permission of these children's parents to use their images and stories to promote the cause of CAICA. It would be one thing if it were just a memorial page for kids who were killed in programs, but they seem to have a pro-program agenda, however subtle it might be. I also noticed the article promoting wilderness therapy, which is both ineffective and dangerous, so I would chalk this website up in the category of hypocritical child advocates out to make a buck, best case they are just ignorant and hopefully they will fix these mistakes and hypocritical stances soon. If not, I would question their agenda for sure. The website doesn't look that professional, it looks like something put together by one individual, so I am not sure how much of an impact they really have...?

Izzy Zehnder and CAICA/PURE (Spider Webs)
« Reply #2 on: October 29, 2006, 05:35:52 PM »
No question that CAICA and P.U.R.E. (Izzy & Sue Scheff) are tied at the hips and in over their heads.  Izzy is throwing unsuspecting parents right into the lap of Sue Scheff so Sue can work them over for a referral and money.  CACIA/PURE are the webs and Zehnder/Scheff are the black widow spiders creeping over the parents.  Neither one of these spiders has a clue about mental health and kids and what may be appropriate.  Scheff/Zehnder are the poster children for the need for regulations.   ::noway::  ::noway::   Scheff/Zehnder
