Lance was my counselor while I was at HLA for a while.  He has a very pompous attitude and often responds to criticism from students by trying to make them feel stupid for even voicing the complaint in the first place.  At least twice a week, our therapy sessions became (within the first five minutes) sessions of voicing complaints about unfair treatment from the school.  Often, I was the person who was the most vocal about things that I disagreed with, and I was sent to Ridge Creek because I was "not progressing therapeutically".  Lance told me that I was holding the group back because, after I had been complaining about the policies and poor treatment for a while, the group was beginning to take my side completely.  Before I started my campaign to get other kids to wake up and see how ridiculous the school is, they had been convinced (by Lance) that the school was helping them tremendously.  Anyway, I can't possibly express my disdain for Lance and his apparently uncontrollable need to manipulate troubled kids in a Fornits post.  However, I do need to close this post with a little bit of gloating.  Lance, if you are reading this, you were wrong.  You told me the day before I left that I was still the "old Ed" and that I had not changed and that I would fail outside of HLA.  Well guess what?  I am at a respected prep school as a senior, making a 3.7 GPA and staying off drugs and out of trouble, no thanks to you.  Maybe you should reconsider your pathetic and corrupt career.

Dunno if you are gonna read this, but congrats on doing so well and stuff like that. Because of all of the HLA pplz scouting this website I can't post who I am, even though you know me, but I hope everything is going well for you and your family. Once thing I never caught at HLA, were you planning on going into a music major? Cause you are damn good at playing the mandolin and it would be a shame for all of that to go to waste.

I am planning to go to college and probably study business or liberal arts or something that will give me a good foundation, and minor in music.  I was going to major in music, but the problem is that it can be difficult to find a career with that degree.  Anyway, I wish there was some way I could find out who you are; I have definitely found some other people.  Are you someone who is still there?  If so, I hope you get out soon, and I hope you remember not to take any of HLA's rhetoric seriously.  It (the rhetoric) is just there so they can have some sort of mask to hide the money machine.  I hope I don't sound like a conspiracy theorist or anything (George?), because I am just telling the truth.  Trust me, I was there.

I didnt put myself at hla, I did learn one or two things though youre right. Mostly how some adults will do anything for a buck, how some were so tormented during their own childhood they seek out any means to exact revenge upon other children. What kinds of people hell was made for......

I learned alot.

PG 80
« Reply #37 on: November 10, 2006, 06:03:19 AM »
I was in lances peer group from the very beginning, so I know all about whats up. Now im not just going to sit here and bitch about lance but I will voice my word. I was in PG 80 (what up everybody) and I had numerous experiences with that man. He was a very straight up kind of guy but at the same time comes off as a schmuck. I remember all the unecessasary bull shit he put through.... All the threats, all the put downs.... The only thing he really taught me was to be prepared for ass holes in life. I do believe he is book smart and actually kind of street smart, but he is in no way thereupeutic material. This man has sent me to Ridge Creek for the biggest BULLSHIT reasons, which I will not go into detail.

Lance and melanie were both my counselors, and when I left out of HLA, there were very few people left in PG 80, because all of his "paitents" were withdrawn because of him. I just remember they used to always flirt during reels and elementals; before the got married, I used to always quietly point out there 'intimant' moments.

Melanie was actually a very good counselor when she first started at HLA. My peer group was Melanie's first and Lance's second. But after some time of associating with Lance, I noticed a sharp decrease of interest in Melanie. It only got worse, so I guess what I'm saying is that it's a shame for Melanie to change into another lance.

and it is a shame that they allow a married couple still be co counselors...it really screws things up for the kids in an already screwed up situation...they have NO one to go to since they are basically clone a holes of eachother...
if i were a parent with a kid there that would be a definate point of contention to me!!!!!!!

Many of the counselors are good up until the time that they pick up their second peer group.  At that point they are so overworked and spread thin that it is almost impossible to be an effective counselor any longer.  It is really unreal the ammount of work the counselors are expected to do compared to the ammount of time they are given to do it.  They are set up to fail and the kids are the ones who suffer for it.
