Muslims and the Pope
« on: September 17, 2006, 06:14:49 AM »
Is it the Muslim contention that The Pope would insult anyone? I have read and seen the conversation had, and I'm sorry I just cant make out the insult. He quoted some ancient scripture.Maybe I am old fashioned, but can someone become a Pope and be an asshole ? I dont think so. I could see a politician being an asshole. I sorta, kinda understand why some are assholes here.I see celebrities that way sometimes. But The Pope?
In fact I cant see killing anyone in the name of any religion.Cant fathom a god out there that would encourage this. Its simply beyond my personal scope.
I have a number of Muslim customers who are not pissed off at the Pope. They have been my customers(friends) a number of years. They mostly are ashamed of what the extremists, and our American media has done to them. It cant be easy being a Muslim American right now.I sent Pizza and soda's to 6 Muslim auto/body shops last week. They have always been nice to me.
As embarrassing as it is to be an American most days with our current administration.Being a Muslim in America right now must feel alot like a Jew living in an Arab state.Walking around with a bullseye painted on them.
Talk about a shit stir stick. The people that are crazy (in addition to some extremists) are the American media,as well as what our current admiinistration would like you to fear.If we all fear Islam, the war on terror becomes more palatable.
Those that are pissed off at the quote from The Pope, are on a path that can only be miserable. All that hate would have to be consuming. Its like "one of our very own" throwing a temper tantrum here. Its funny, but in a "oh my god" kinda way. Who would actually want to live their lives this way. The extremists have that crazed look in their eyes whenever I see something on CNN,or Fox News.I guess it wouldnt sell copy if they showed pictures of Muslims playing Chess at a table, and sharing a cup of tea.
Thanks for reading

Muslims and the Pope

On Tuesday Pope Bendict XVI quoted an obscure midievil text that
criticised SOME teachings of the Prophet Mohammed as "Evil and Inhuman".
The Pope stressed that the passage he quoted " Do not in any way express my personal thoughts".
A few members of the Muslim community have accepted his sincere apology.
Others on the other hand are not so forgiving.
A Somalian Islamist movement has called for Muslims world wide to
"Hunt down and Kill the Pope".
Gunmen shot and killed an elderly Italian nun at a childens hospital
in the Islamist controlled Somalia capital of Mogadishu.
The Vatican has called this "A horrible act".
The critism of the Pope is purely political.
A member of the League of Jihadists in Iraq has said "Know that the soldiers of Mohammed will come sooner or later to shake the foundation of your state".
A spokesman for the Vatican has issued this statement " The Popes words have been misinterpreted and were meant as a rejection of the religious motivation for violence".
The Pope has "Not spoken directly about Islam" in the speech that
triggered widespread anger throughout the Muslim world.

As a matter of fact the Pope HAS apologized. Many times. He infact quoted a text that criticised SOME of the teachings of the Prophet Mohammed. SOME of the teachings NOT ALL of the teachings. And we must remember it was an ancient and obscure text that IS NOT used in this day and age to educate.
The words the Pope spoke were infact not of his personal thoughts or opinions.
Every Muslim person is not bad. No one has claimed that they are.
It is the extremist that leave a sour taste in peoples mouths.
It certainly does not help their plight when more Muslims are down on record saying evil and hatefull things about the Pope and Catholics and Americans.
Very few Muslims have come out with a public acceptance of the Popes apology. They are not leading by example.
There are plenty of Islamic groups coming out of the woodwork threatening violence against the Pope and the Vatican and Catholics.
Case in point: An elderly Italian Catholic nun was shot and killed by extremists in Islamist controlled Somalia.
Also in Somalia a group has called for the death of the Pope.
It is very unfortunate that these extremists are behaving in such a manner.
In other countries these extremists make it impossible for other Muslims to come forward with a message of love and peace.
The consequences would be severe.

They are not reading the "Krone" they are reading the "Quran".

Throughout history many different people representing many different religions have done good and bad things in the name of their religion.
The messages people get from the different books of religions ( IE: Bible ) usually differ from person to person. 9 times out of 10 the message is not a harmfull one.
These crimes committed in the name of religion have to do with the individuals perception of the religion in question. If they are weak minded they can be easily swayed by a more dominate person.
Then you get a mess like Waco Texas, Elizabeth Smart's kidnapping case, Jim Jones's mass suicide and 9/11.

What a shame. All of the different religions this world has to offer are exploited for sickness and hatred and violence.
I realize that religion is "man made" and a great many shy away from organized religion.
Catholics for example try to control peoples methods of contraception.
Why do church's ALWAYS ask for so much money?
So on and so forth.
I for one am more spiritual than religious.
I have a hard time following "religious rules".
I was born and raised Episcopalian.
I briefly considered becoming Catholic.
My husband is. He's also 1/2 Peruvian but I am not trying to become Peruvian. Though it happens to be a very beautiful culture.
It was going to be alot of very hard work to become Catholic.
The classes and studies and memorizing the prayers and rituals were to much for me.
YIKES.
Though his tia has said the prayers and rituals are very comforting.

Oh yeah the point of this long ass essay is that its foolish to blame every Muslim for terrorist acts. It has always been foolish to blame an entire race/religion for the actions of a few individuals.

I highly doubt that people will ever get past this though. They will continue to condemn entire races/religions.
The media will continue to play into peoples fears and hatred.
Do you expect anything different? Do you expect anything better?
Maybe one day. Hopefully it will not get worse by the time my 7 year old daughter grows up.

Very few of your posts are short Doug. But you make plenty of sense in this one.

They are not reading the "Krone" they are reading the "Quran".
This poster is an imposter, playing a silly 12 yr old game...He lives to hijack any and all meaningful posts. He obviously has nothing else to feel good about.

I too feel bad for the real Muslims that just practice their religion and hurt noone. They are the majority, howeverthe climate of our media, and current administration would like you to be in fear of all Muslims. W needs to go .. this country desperately needs a leader.

Your right there is alot of hubub as you so eloquently put it. Not many people in America pay attention to the Pope. In other parts of our fine world he seems to get more attention focused on him and his words.
There are always people out there just waiting to hear or see something that offends them so they can cause a fuss about it.

No Arthur, the only person who ever ate shit was YOU.
I'm tellin you people, artman is really seriously crying out for some help here. He is giving us major clues as to his horrible past and confusing others for his horrific memories. Not really sure why Arthur was fed shit in his younger years, but it definately tramatized him, and here he is today in his mid 40's confusing other people
for his horrific experiences.
But its all good Artie that you are letting it all out, now if you could just come to terms with honesty and stop substituting other names for your horrific past experiences, I think there is a chance for some slight normalcy in your future.
