WELL WE ALL REMEMBER LOOKING BACK. NO MATTER WHEN YOU WERE AT KIDS. WE ALL REMEMBER THOSE INDIVIDUALS THAT WE FEARED. JOEL MESSAROS WAS ONE OF THEM I WITNESS JOEL ABUSE A NEWCOMER IN SUCH A WAY THAT I WAS IN SHOCK AND TERRIFIED TO GET BEAT UP. I WAS A SKINNY NEWCOMER VERY WEAK.I WAS NOT PHYSICALY AFRAID OF MANY BUT OF JOEL I WAS. HE GOT ENRAGED AFTER A NEWCOMER ACTED OUT IN HIS VAN AND WHAT HAPPENED NEXT WAS SCARY. HE TIED UP A NEWCOMER WITH ROPE OF COURSE WITH THE HELP OF THREE GUYS HE PUNCHED THE NEWCOMER IN THE FACE A FEW TIMES. HE TRIED TO CHOKE THEM
(THIS NEWCOMER WAS TOUGH AND WASNT AFRAID)I THOUGHT JOEL WAS GOING TO PUT THE NEWCOMER UNCONSCIOUS.THIS NEWCOMER WAS BEAT RED HAD SLASHES ON HIS FACE AND WAS HUMILIATED AND TORTURED THE REST OF THE NIGHT. JOEL WOULD STARVE MOST OF US AND GIVE US A SLICE OF BREAD AND MAKE US TALK TO HIM NAKED. WITH NO CLOTHES ON.SO YOU SEE WHEN EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT DREW(I NEVER SAW DREW BEAT UP A NEWCOMER)AND I WAS HIS NEWCOMER FOR LIKE YEARS. JOEL WOULD INSTILL FEAR IN ALL.I REMEMBER TUESDAY NIGHT RAPS WERE LIKE OH SHIT JOEL IS COMING.IM SO GRATEFUL THAT I DONT LIVE THAT INSANITY ANYMORE.JOEL IF I HAD IT MY WAY YOU WOULD BE BEHIND BARS.LETS SEE IF YOU ARE BIG AND TOUGH IN JAIL.THEY WOULD HAVE FUN WITH YOUR ASS. Intimidation was the name of the game, no doubt. I have to admit (and I'm definitely NOT trying to sound like a tough guy) but neither Joel or Drew scared me in the least. I thought they were egotistical assholes pretty much my entire 18 months of insanity. I suppose at some points I might've thought they were cool, but that was only during my periods of utter desperation and mind-warp. My biggest fear was Preston Miller!!! I had him as my newcomer alot and it always seemed to happen when he was rebellious. I remember Rich Okeema pulling me into the bathroom once telling me I could kick Prestons ass if he got out of line or attempted to cop out- but I was not the least bit confident about that! I was sure he was going to kill me and my whole family! (No offense Preston if you're reading this!) But back to Drew and Joel- it doesn't say much for Newton having wimpy punks like them as his top henchmen- more like his top kissasses.

How long ago did you guys suffer these abuses from Joel and Drew? What do you mean when you say "acted out in his van?" What kind of a place was this, and what ever became of it? Is it a rehab facility? I am just baffled beyond belief and would love to understand more. Thank you in advance.

Actually, Drew is still a Newton follower, but Joel came to his senses a long time ago and left.  In leaving, he lost his wife and daughter.  She is still with Newton in Fla. and was allowed to bring their daughter with her.  
I know that a lot of things happened that were terrible, it was a terrible time.  I was Joel's newcomer for quite awhile, and I have to say that he was never like that with me.   He got me through a very rough time [I was one of the one's that really needed a drug rehab]I ran into him at AA many times afterwards too.  I know for a fact that he regrets the things he did back then, and has really changed his life.  He is a strong AA member, and has helped so many others.  Just as Kids effected you, so did it effect the oldcomers.  If you never got to the point where you were one, then you have no idea.  I know that I did many things as an oldcomer that I regret today.  It was drummed into us to be tough....we were saving lives.  That was the bottom line...we really did think that we were saving lives.  Just think about this....if it was hard for someone who wasn't involved in Kids for too long to recover from the effects, how much harded for those who were there for a long time and got to be a "henchman".  Joel has every right to hate Newton for being instrumental in taking his daughter away, but he has moved on and learned to deal with her being away.  He goes to see her ofen.  I bet he is broke from trying to fight  his ex wife in court too. It took the judge a long time to make up his mind.  What a mistake..what was he thinking?  Everyone changes after Kids.   Some for the better and some not.  Try to forgive things that happened a long time ago in another life.  People change.  Haven't you?

Yes indeed people do change.  If the principals in AA that Drew follows today are in the least bit valid, then he "owes amends" to many people here and over at thekidsbbs.com.

With amends comes forgiveness and I guess you know the rest.....

Well I speak as a ex-female staff member while Rich O was on staff. As far as Preston Mil er goes as previously stated he didn't stand a chance against Rich. And once when Rich was a Jr. staff member he decked Joel a Sr. staff member right before an open meeting, they later worked things out from what I know. Drew never wanted anything to do with Rich because he was scared after what he saw happen to Joel. All in all just crazy behavior due to crazy mental abuse form Newton I suppose. If anyone ever sees Rich let him know there is a special someone who prays for him and his mom who  I loved....

I hear your anger and think you have every right, but if you are so big and bad and tough, why are you posting anonymously?

Not only is it in poor taste to disclose those details, it is cowardly to do so without your name attached!  I'm not so convinced that if we knew who you were that we couldn't spill some sordid details of your childhood sexual experiences that you had to expose in guys rap.

Further, I think it is intolerable and ignorant that someone would equate creative attempts at masturbation or same sex experimentation in childhood as a sign of weakness or lack of manhood, rather than acknowledging that this is for many, a normal occurrence in adolescent sexual development.

Clearly your opinion. And on what merit or fact do you base your flimsy character assessment? You clearly are speaking through your ass. What does this have to do with manhood? Confidence? What does it have to do with any anger toward them for the way they treated people?

Very well said.  I think that anyone who reveals what was said in a rap is more of a slime than those "henchmen".  Not only is it cowardly, but it is also is sometimes untrue.  Remember...almost all of us lied  or exagerated about what we did.  Besides, those things were done when they were young and also a druggie.  I think you should forgive things that were done in Kids.  Probably the same things were done to those oldcomers when they were newcomers.  I have to admit that I still have alot of anger towards Miller and Ruthie, but it does not extend to other kids in Kids.  I know how oldcomers were told to do whatever it takes.  They probably had their doubts about what they were doing, but who in their right mind would have voiced them.   They would have wound up back on a blue chair.

I have no idea who this Claudia is or why you think that it is me.  As for having a crush on those guys.....I am not gay!!!!!
We were both just expressing an opinion, but for some reason, you really get bent out of shape.  
I really came onto this site to get some support from others who went thru what I did.  No one I have met since can understand my thoughts and feelings about Kids.  Who could?  I don't understand them myself.  I don't even know why I bother with this site...I think I keep hoping to hear something bad about the Newton's.  As for everyone else, I only wish them all the best.  We all had terrible experiences there.  As for the hangers on...I pray that they someday have the guts to break away from that jerk.  I still ask myself all the time, why do they continue to listen to him.  After all that came out at the trials, don't they have to question what they are doing?  As for my writing anonymously, I still don't feel secure enough to reveal my name.
