EMPLOYEES WHO LOOKED THE OTHER WAY/ PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

This is the USA, where, NO CHILD IS LEFT BEHIND; a powerful political statement and especially now with November elections.    Our society has little tolerance when it comes to mistreatment of children; the media is all over situations related to children.  Nancy Grace and Oprah, to name just a few.

As an organization, HLA is geographically unique and not just because it is located in the woods away from civilian observation, the staff and enrollment is also geographically unique.  Most key employees hired are from out of state and with this move,  they have obligations  such as rent or mortgages and become vulnerable.   There is not much opportunity for alternative employment  in Lumpkin County and speaking out might cost them their job  Most parents are from out of state and they find themselves in emotional upheaval  upon enrolling their children.  With this state of mind and not knowing other parents,  it is pretty easy to keep them in the dark and quiet.  Then there is the student enrollment that consists of struggling teens and they fear speaking out because they risk harsh punishment.    And,  even if they did, who would listen.    What a set up for manipulation???..brilliant, but not unbreakable!

Mr. Buccellato is the Owner of HLA, and, yes, the one ultimately responsible for all operating decisions.

What I cannot understand is why the following employees have not come forward to address the situation.  Moreover, they have watched this for YEARS and this was particularly obvious when a parent expressed their issues of concern and fear.  Every experience I had with a key staff member was the same; they had no empathy or tolerance.  They were in full support of HLA procedures and would overlook everything and anything by telling you it was justified or blame it on you or the child.       According to their credentials on the HLA website, these employees have college educations (supposedly related to education or psychology) so they are fully aware of the practice of standards, ethics and laws that protect children.  Surely, they are smart enough to compare their salaries to the tuition dollars received by HLA and question where all the money is going.

What are the ethical responsibilities of educators and counseling services for protection of children/minors?

I wonder how the Federal Gov't would feel knowing they had paid money to HLA on the auspices of the "No Child Left Behind" Act?

Those who looked the other way should held fully reponsible for their actions.

Now don't be bringing Corky into this. She is guilty of nothing but doing her job!

She knows a lot more that's going on than you think. They all do.
