I never went to the med cart much, so I am curious who was and what they were getting. If you put the approx time period and which Straight you were in that would be good because I think certain times and branches had different practices.

The med cart in Richardson, it was crazy cause I dont think anyone took meds until i was there about a month. When the med cart did come out, only a few people went. I saw it maybe a week and then it disapeared again. A few months later it came back out and tons of people were on meds. I just find it strange that it would leave for weeks at a time. I new one girl who had severe asthma. She had those lil glass viles of medicine to put in this machine at the host home, we would all have to sit around the table while she did it and because she was on 1st phase she couldnt break open the glass vile, she had to tell the upper phaser how to do it. She couldnt hold her inhaler on 1st phase, she still had to motivate and she had a very hard time breathing. She would lift her hand for an upper phaser to get it for her. I rarely ever saw her be able to get it while being in  group.

Hmmm....mostly anti-depressants.  I remember one girl who was my newcomer for a while coming home with a massive cocktail of lithium, prozac and god knows what else. As far as I know, no one was put on AD's after entering the program, they were only allowed to continue them if they had them when they came in.   Also, girls got Naproxen for cramps if they wanted.  Loads of Monistat for yeast infections. Kwell shampoo for crabs and lice.  There was a scabies outbreak a few times, on the guys side.  Bandages or neosporin for the pickers and cutters.

Med-cart was used as a point to put in for a withdrawl from the program.  We had a bloated group, somwhere between 150-225 kids at any given point counting the massive influx of kids from California who got transferred when it shut down.  So Meds always took a while.  The doctor only ever came to the building to do new intake girls pap-smears, it was always the nurse who divied up the loot.

A word on the pap-smears, I had never had one until i went into Straight and i came away from that always terrified that a doctor was gonna jam a finger up my ass whenever i got one.  As it turns out I guess it was standard procedure to look for that desperate last minute stash of coke I never had done before.  Normally, docs dont do that special little procedure. Assholes.

Just so you know, a rectal exam is part of a normal gyn exam. If your doc can palpate your ovaries and uterus completely when he/she does your vaginal exam, then they might skip the rectal, but most doc's I know still do it to be sure they don't miss a mass that can be in the posterior part of your pelvis.

I dont remember if I ever got meds in Str8...I can tell you though that staff (as in Jr or Sr) doled them out while sitting in a chair with a plastic tub of meds in their lap....we did not have a cart nor did a doctor or nurse ever pass out meds. Also, not many people were allowed to get meds of any kind there....the lines for meds were not very long....and when I was there the group ranged between 160 to 200+ kids. The only thing I remember being passed out in the med line is inhalers. That is not that say that is the only thing passed out...just all I remember for certain.
This was in Cincy 84-86.

That's how I remember it in SP.  The blue box on someone's lap in back of group.  I was on tylenol 3 when I came in, had a continuous prescription but that was downgraded to motrin immediately and then taken away altogether in about 2 weeks.  I stopped my period for the entire time I was in there so I ended up not needing it, but damn.  Never once did I see a medical professional, nurse, doc or otherwise.  Not once.  Even when I got chicken pox.

Anyone from SP remember Bob with the tatoos on his forearms?  Had them sliced off and got some antibiotics and tylenol.  Fuckers. :flame:

I got to the Doctor once... After months of horrific pain and other symptoms.. I think L@F might have taken me?? I Wish I could remember the Mom who drove.. Hrmm.  Ultimately The prescribed treatment (anitbiotics, follow up appointments) were (or was) never followed through with once I returned to the building. Then the real kicker was, when I was taken out of the program, Because of Straight my parents didn't believe I had a medical issue until I was married and lost my first baby.. Hence leading to 14+ surgeries....THANKS Straight Inc!

The only meds I ever got were the brown granule things for constipation...but only after the rectal exam...Dr. Pug was an evil, sick man... I'd love to visit his office..

I do remember alot of kids on meds for severe acne and asthma though.

~WD

Oh and I have a ton of GYN exams... NOT ONE, except Dr. Pug ever put anything in my rectum. I'll have to ask my best friend who is a Labor and Delivery nurse.... If they do that normally, she has given thousands of exams.. surely she would know.

In all the years I have had gyn exams after str8...I never have had a rectal as part of the exam...so as far as I know they are not normally done during a gyn exam. Sounds like the str8 doctors had another agenda if you ask me.
