does anyone remember the movie?
« on: August 09, 2006, 11:42:08 PM »
i was just wondering if anyone remembers the movie that they showed us down in St.Pete with Susan Byrds son Chris as the "star" of it.....i don't remember the name of it,but they showed it at least 3 times along with MIDNIGHT EXPRESS.......anyone who was there in 81-83 should remember it.......well, at least i do anyways.........we never got to watch tv in that place let alone a movie unless you went to a movie theatre on permission.........i was talking to someone earlier and for the life of me,i can't remember the name!.....also,if someone remembers it,can you tell me if its availiable? just for nostogia,i'd like to see it again 26 yrs later.....i know,i'm wierd,but wtf? entertainment is wierd.......anyways i thought i'd ask......hippie{oh, by the way,its NOT "its not my kid" or whatever that was called...this is way before he {miller} huuuuued all the ppl involved in straight and flew the coop or as he so eloquently phrased it "copped - out" from the lawsuites and str8....}

What was the plot?  I remember that they did show a movie along with Midnight Express but I don't remember a thing about it. I'm pretty good with movie trivia so if it was a mainstream or even an indy but somewhat known movie I'd probably be able to figure it out.

no,it was a propaganda movie about straight......chris byrd was the "star" of it......it was filmed by his dad.......i think it was a promotional film for straight for us to watch and possibly our parents.....i don't think it was a public thing like the other movie "not my kid" or whatever it was called..........i hope this helps you some......hippie

A Straight propaganda film?  I'd love to see that!  It'd be funnier than any comedy, yet scarier than any horror film.......

What I thought was screwed up was how they showed oldcomers walking newcomers with their hand on the shoulder.....not hanging on the beltloop like what was actually done.

I think that even if someone got the video, the mere fact that the people in the video can't give their permission for others to view the film is wrong.  It is possibly breaking their anonimity.  This is serious.  This is a severe breach of client priviliges.    I would recommend that this film be destoryed.

From what I recall the movie was shown on "CBS" so with it being aired on national tv waivers would have been signed at some point.

Plot Summary for
Not My Kid (1985) (TV)
A teenaged drug addict is sent to Dr. Royce's controversial drug intervention program where the addicts in the program confront each other in supervised group meetings. Also, in evening meetings, the addicts are confronted by their families. The girl's parents want to remove her from the program because it upsets them that their daughter is being forced to associate with addicts who admit to stealing and trading sex for drugs. They remain in denial until their daughter admits at a family confrontation meeting the extent of her drug addiction. After this they are able to address their own feelings about being the family of a hardcore drug addict. The daughter is reunited with her family only after all of them have acknowledged her addiction and accepted therapy for it.

Hmmmm,This is still on the movie topic, but off the beaten path a lil....
Reading what ye all wrote reminded me of a movie they used to make us all watch @ khk called..." Scared Straight"....was this movie that I just mentioned one of the usual suspects around "STRAIGHT" , as well, as it was around KHK?
