on some sights which criticise the staights and it spin off programmes the DRUG FREE AMERICA FOUNDATION is mentioned. Its website, however, did not look like a programme webiste as it mentioned no schools or facilities that i could see & the tips it had for parents largely seemed pretty reasonable. One of the things it emphasised was seeking help & support within the community. It also had useful tips for parents on staying in touch with their kids lives.

Does anyone know anything about this organisation?

More than I care to think about. Here's some:

George W. Bush, The Drug Free America Foundation, Inc.,  (formerly Straight Foundation, Inc.)  and the Republican Party

http://thestraights.com/gop.htm

Basically, the DFAF is Straight, Inc.'s new name. They are no longer directly involved in the warehouse gulag business. They're playing on a much more professional level these days. They invest in public policy, and very lucratively too. They mandate things like pee testing in the schools, zero tolerance, community supervision programs whereby they hold little children hostage in Florida's horrendous foster care system in order to attain compliance from their young parents.

So when they say to a Bay Area audience "seek help in the community" it's a fuck-all bad joke. The 'community' is already riddled w/ their booby traps. Betty Sembler is, hands down, the most astute, successful welfare mama out there.

I did note their policy on urine testing. Are they public or are they a private think tank?

It's a not for profit, I do believe. But I remember Calvina Fay having made a statement a couple of years ago that 30% or so of their funding was Federal. They also get a whole lot of mandated spending into their pockets by way of laws requiring pee testing, which goes to DATIA (Drug and Alcohol Testing Industries Association) member organizations. Check out those boards of directors. When you get it all in one place and look at it, it's really just a small group of very delusional people pretending to be a bunch of large organizations representing the will of the people.

Then where do they get the rest of it?

If they're a registered not-for-profit then don't they have to be open about their sources of funding?

Somebody pulled their tax returns a few years ago. I can't recall offhand where it all comes from. But it seems to me it was a familiar list of Semblers and their known cohorts.

Yes! They just have to be creative with their mission statements.

Anybody can scam the system. I live in a post urban sort of area on the edge of Appalachia and this place is just lousey with dumb hillbillies living off the public dole behind some exagerated or imaginary disability. But they don't usually get that much.

But Betty Sembler is the other kind of welfare mama. She and her friends live in obscene luxury; places like the Drug Prevention Network of the Americas, Dare America
and some pics from a protest in 2002.

All of these are allegedly charitable or educational institutions that suck down Joe Paycheck's tax funds to pay for his surveilance, control and reeducation. Oh, brave new world!
