Heh. I eventually got my own will and sense of what is right and wrong and go by that... I take it you did too?

It does suck when you see all the sheeple for what they are, though, dunnit. Using "love" as an excuse to do wtf ever they want as long as its within their hierarchial excuse machine, using their own worry and anxiety to excuse their bad judgement and selfishness and blaming the victim while they self-victimize for affection, and generally being giant fucksticks.

Oh, well. Can't change them, can't argue with them, 'cause we're not as bad as them, right?

Well, maybe it may be better understood if I said the entire family is affected and it becomes a family problem, not just a single person.

No, you think your own personal anxiety from worry somehow compares to what a child in a program goes through.

It's nothing but a self-serving "yeah, but" self-victimization and ploy for attention and abdication of parental responsibilities.

We aren't here because the parents suffered with us, we're here becuase the parents took the easy way out for themselves.

Fucked my whole family up for a while, left it in splinters, separate camps, people no longer speaking and my wife pulling double-duty on damage control and being mom.  So fuck a program.  That's just my opinion, man, based on personal experience.  Real experience Whoot-boy.

I realize i'm repeating this but why the hell are parents so damned self victimizing? Why the attentionwhoring?

You're the one who went through hell, not them... they just look for attention (well, the program parent) and act as if they are above reproach for anything they ever do regarding their child at all... unless they start attention whoring about OH MY POOR CHILD WAS ABUSED I WAS SO FOOLED but still go ME ME ME about it all.

Its like you're their pet, vicarious liver-through, or just a psychological appendage!!!

WTF is wrong with everyone? You don't parent to get the feel-good warm fuzzies about 'parenting' you do it for that person you created and needs you to survive until they can make it on their own.

Yeah, I know what you mean.  Most of these parents can't really be bothered to actually parent their child.  Then when behavioral problems (real or perceived) crop up, they panic and go running off for 'help'.  Mine were too wrapped up in their own issues when I was growing up to really bother with me.  I felt very alone (only child too).  They separeted and then divorced when I was 14 and mom and I moved out.  I had just started high school and was switching from being sheltered in private school my whole life to public.  I did the normal smoking, drinking and general raising hell.  Skipping school, got in a car accident, change of friends...ya know, all those 'warning signs' TBSs are so fond of.  They got scared and put me in Straight.  So you've got pretty much this empty vessel.  Since mom and dad were so busy with their own lives and problems that they couldn't really be bothered to teach me anything about life, I really had no sense of self or roots.  Then heap two years of cult brainwashing and send me off into the world to be a well adjusted adult.  Riiiiiiiiight.  I did tow the line for a while and dad got to brag about what a good parent he was and how much he sacrificed for me to be able to attend the wonderful program that I did and how it saved my life and taught us so much as a family ::puke:: , but as soon as I began to question what had really gone on, I was quickly given an 'exit plan' so to speak.  As long as I rejected Straight and it's teachings I was cut off from the family.

True, Anne, in some cases the parents jump the gun and ship their kids off to be fixed without exploring other options first, others are checked out as parents to begin with, there are all types.   Its awful you got sent to straight, its sounds like I raised more hell than you did when I was young than.  I heard the horror stories about that place.

Yeah but it took me so damn long!!  They ended up with so much control over me even after I got out because of the custody situation.  That was harder on me than actually being in Straight.   They had me by the balls and they knew it and used it.  I honestly dont think I was able to really start to come out of the fog until my kids reached the age to where they couldn't take them or threaten to anymore.  That's another thing that sucks.  I actually did end up with problems with drinking and other drugs........after I got out.  Self fulfilling prophecy dontchaknow.  But......I ended up solving my problem on my own.  I got tired of being hungover so I didn't drink so much, I got tired of being hooked on pills, so I went through  the withdrawal and quit.  When people get tired of behaving certain ways that cause them pain, they stop behaving like that.  I know it sounds like an overs-simplification, but it's true.

It was horrible.  I was never physically abused there because I was too damn scared to say or do anything "wrong", but the emotional abuse was the worst part.  The raps (LifeSteps).  THAT is what fucked me up long term.

On condition of anonymity, I know of a ex-straightling who got raped after leaving straight.

Said straight was so much worse than some drunk frat boys who spiked her drink that it didn't even phase her.

Thanks but it's a shame that it had to take this long.  My kids and I both missed out on a lot while wrapped up in that mentality.

I just hope that your parents aren't remote to your kids because of your little schism... that hurts them a lot. Oh, and you too.
