I agree with anon, I think that the bus companies and escort services should perform their own background checks.  If a particular escort service has harmed children in the past then they should be shut down or avoided.

My neighbor has a daughter who attends an all girls school in the Midwest.  There have been a few times that the parents could not go with her back to school so they hired an escort service to accompany her back.  You just need to do the proper research to find a good service.
I have never heard of someone wanting to have their child taken away to an unknown destination.  I think if this ever happened it would make national headlines and they would all go to jail.

So many kids get taken to Peninsula Village under the illusion the place is some kind of Summer camp, we thought about renting a billboard on the highway before you enter the PV boonies saying "Don't believe them - Peninsula Village is hell.  Get away!"

She means the PARENTS know where the kids are going. The humans the parents have abducted don't know where they are going, or have control over it.

I'm glad by posting that article they have now stopped lying about how "escort" is not abduction, and is just like getting the bus.

Now they're trying new means of confusion. Weird. Everytime they want to discredit something, even something that is completely out in the open- like the paid human slave shippers, ("escort services" who abduct human beings, as if they were the property of their families,) they say "but if that happened there would be national headliines."

Well, this article shows the medias reaction to the systematic abduction and torture of human beings. It generates a one time special interest story.(at best) One mention, then down the memory hole. if it even gets a mention

Actually, parents who tried to put their kids in Tranquility Bay did go to jail. It didn't make those "national headlines," though, that you keep referring to. There is enough information available about TB that the judge considered it tanamount to child endangerment. Sadly, he felt the laws allow guardians to pay people to abduct their offspring and hold them captive until they are 18, so they weren't charded on kidnapping

So your "friend" hired men to abduct their daughter and taker her to a private prison in the midwest. Nice. Luckily, they're fictional. Otherwise, they, just maybe, might get sued by their kid a couple years down the line

"build the Promised Salt Lake City in the clouds with that Black fella from Star Wars. After that, he'll be eviscerated by dingoes in a bizarre "Aspen in the Outback" accident. Jesus will return then, reborn in a Native American-owned gambling casino, strewing $1,000 chips on the ground "

You rock! You're refering to Lando Calrisian (sp) , Lando is that very well spoken Black gentleman that Runs cloud city. Great place, the tri-tip buffets are delicious. Just keep an eye out for Vader. And maybe duct tape your lightsaber to your hand.

"A dingo ate your baby". Nice outback work there mate.

"Jesus will return" - halleljuah -halleljuah -halleljuah- halleljuah.

"The redman's casino"  hell yes! Let's go cut up some felt - I'm down for some blackjack and 3 card poker.

Arguing about what defines kidnapping makes about as much sense as my 'cite my favorite movies' banter.

The fact that a parent doesn't have one relative or one friend that the kid can trust enough to get on an airplane with is beside me.

What does that say about our society when families become that alienated.

I'll end on irony. Bounty hunters looking for fugitives .....

"These are not the droids you are looking for" - OB1 to stormtrooper. Just outside of the Tattoine spaceport with the bitchin alien bar that Han smokes Guido in.

It's more like if a parent tried to physically force a 12 -17 year old to go anywhere, the police would intervene.

Getting “escorts" gives the abduction a professional sheen that seems to dazzle the fuzz into holding back with its "official" connotations

Exactly,  The person is picked up at one place and escorted to another.  There are differences in services:  Some children are escorted, when they fly, by members of the airlines if they are under the age of 12.  The airlines could opt to call them abductors but they choose escorts.  The same for escort services which transport children to various schools or programs.  If you look at their web sites they choose the word escort not abductors.  I guess it all has to do with what you are use to.  I have noticed many here on fornits like abductors better so they are sort of interchangable here.

Outside of fornits you may get some looks if you say your child is being abducted by his aunt on Tuesday for a few days to go to the beach.

The word abduction is used to try to shock parents.  Anyone who has read here knows that.  Its just kids trying to get attention, "Oh!!  I was abducted and forced to visit my grandmother against my wishes on christams!!"  or like when they say their high school is a prison and they are forced to go everyday or the food in the cafeteria is poison.  Most kids talk this way, it is a natural part of growing up.  Most kids get past it in their early twenties.

Look, the drama is mostly the girls.  They are more apt to say they were abducted by their parents and forced to visit their grandparents.  Guys arent going to say stuff like that, lets not lump them both together.  If a guy screws up and is abusive towards his family and frinds at home and eventually ends up getting the help he needs in a program, they are less apt to belly ache about being abducted or blaming his parents and brothers and sisters.  But they do all get over all the drama in their mid twenties, I can see your point on that one.

I like shanghaied.  It has a mysterious flavor to it, like heading out to sea for a year or two and come back a better person.  We should switch to shanhaied
