Obviously I didn't read all 250 some pages.  (Rather read a good book thanks)  so this is a simplistic observation ... but isn't one death one too many?  
Isn't this sort of like saying 'heh there's going to be collateral damage in the industry"?

You almost appear to be defending this.

…or we could look at it a little more realistically and say the risk of doing nothing (not taking advantage of the “Window of opportunity”) and continuing to allow your child to be exposed to danger and the risk of death, heading down the path they are presently on, is borderline abusive in itself…especially if you have the means to get your child help.
I guess what we don’t know (and don’t agree on) is that if the tens of  thousands of kids that went thru wilderness, never went,  would the 44 number have increased or decreased?

I believe it would have drastically increased and I would assume you feel the opposite.
