War on marijuana?
« on: January 06, 2003, 11:54:00 PM »
Should marijuana be legalized? It is my knowledge that this isn't an additive drug. Many kids in Straight were villified and demonized for smoking pot, an non-addictive substance. Some never did any drugs harder than than marijuana, but were often considered "just as bad" as heroin or cocaine users in the program. I don't know if legalization is right or wrong, but I find it shameful that kids who had smoked marijuana even once were misdiagnosed as "druggies" and sentenced to months and years or emotional abuse in Straight. An executive staff member once corrected us when a phaser said that we had to be "addicts" to be in Straight. "Not so", said the executive staff member, but must only have a "drug problem". Which ultimately translated into a policy of "one strike and you're out". (If you look at a tobacco waterpipe that even contains unlit marijuana and you are curious about what it might feel like if you smoked it, you might need years or reprogramming in one of our centers of mind control-you have been affected, it's too late!).

I have rarely, if ever, experienced any considerable negative effects from smoking it (before or after Straight) and at times it seemed to even be "therapeutic" so long as I didn't do it all the time. When it kept me from indulging in the addictive drug alcohol, it seemed to be "a rescue remedy". People who haven't stuggled with a real addiction (like alcohol) probably don't want to tolerate the notion that anything that is illegal could be healthy in any way, but my experience proves that bias as an irrelevant one.

I don't smoke pot anymore, mostly because it's illegal, but the whole marijuana debate is interesting on many levels as it ties into the "war on drugs"/"the war on young minds".

If this is too political, then just ignore me. Just felt that this topic ties in alot with so much of the unnecessary incarcerations and misdiagnosing that Straight was notorious for. If this is inappropriate for the website, I humbly apologize.

There's a hilarious movie titled Half Baked where Thorogood (Dave Chapelle) gets booed out of rehab for claiming to be "addicted...to marijuana". Brilliant movie. A breath of fresh air. Silly.

Ja mon.
Legalize it, don't criticize it.  I am spending time pot free due to the war on marijuana and my status as a professional with a medical license "studying" for a drug test soon.
I thank you for a well written post.  I used to post a LOT more and threw plenty of politics in, but hey, here it is preaching to the choir.  We know what is bad.  Senator Drug Warrior and his scotch, Peter Police chief and his new infrared pot plant seeking Bell helicopters and all the other special interests dedicated to keeping the safest mind altering substance in existance illegal.  Those are my thoughts.
I spent this evening with two lovely ladies fresh in from california who brought some kind buds with them.  It really sucked to not smoke with 'em.  Well, thats my rant.

Well, if you remember, at Straight, (and according to Newton's inspiring books, any and all "drug use is a disease." Whether the kids had a drug "problem" or not . . . the program had their bases covered with that little gem of wisdom. No doubt Newton doesn't drink coffee, eat chocolate, or take aspirin, as, according to his own rules, that would be succumbing to his "disease." After all, a drug is a drug is a drug! - Leigh

The whole concept of making a plant illegal is ridiculous.  The high and damage people get from mj is mild compared to alcohol and tobacco, both of which are legal.  It should be legalized.

This is the one that really churns my crank. I was talking with a friend the other day about all these DARE and such programs the kids in public school are subjected to. He told me that they are now teaching kids that TOBACCO is a DRUG in the same class they talk about coke and heroin and such. He was saying how his son was calling him a drug user because of this and how it depressed him to be compared to junkies by his 5 year old. Imagine what this has done to his sons opinion of his dad? In my book this is dead wrong and id begging for a law suit.

Here's some real history on prohibition.

When a well-packaged web of lies
has been sold gradually to the masses
over generations, the truth will seem
utterly preposterous and its speaker
a raving lunatic.

I think (from experience) that alcohol is an extremely dangerous drug if it is abused. So is crack cocaine or amphetamines like the kind O.J. Simpson was on when he killed Nicole. (Oh, I forgot he is still golfing on the ninth green looking for the real killers).

One time I was drunk and I heard someone at a pizza restaurant make a derogatory comment about O.J. I fired back "I heard that @%$# man! O.J. was innocent!" Everybody laughed at the unexpected and drunk defense of OJ. Wow. Those were the days. I blacked out and peed on the floor, they allege. Hey THEY served a Straight graduate with post-traumatic stress disorder pitcher after pitcher of beer, I'm sure they saw it coming!

When I smoked marijuana during these years, I just stayed at home and listened to CD's. I was very inward and thoughtful. I was soft and cuddly.

But when I drank Mad Dog 20/20, I'd hit the streets rapping like Snoop Dog until I slipped down a steep incline trying to bring back some steaks to my girlfriend and her kid. Then the ambulance would take me home or to the hospital if I had overdosed. Story after story of totally crazy behavior on booze.

Like I said, I don't smoke pot anymore, but I sure enjoyed all the non-eventful times that I did. I am still immature enough to enjoy Cheech and Chong movies.

New Cheech and chong movie coming soon--saw Tommy Chong at a comedy club the other night and bought some of his glassware. He and his wife "Tree" were kind enough to sign.

Is Cheech in it? I heard that they didn't get along anymore. I read an interview with Tommy Chong about three or four years ago where he said that Cheech's education must've kicked in, that he had moved on from his "rebellious phase" with Chong. Playing a cop on Nash Bridges wasn't all that great a move if you ask me. Chong also said that he thought that aliens had abducted Cheech and did something with his moustache! I was wondering what went wrong! :smokin: I hope he grows it back and comes to.
