Why I am leaving
« on: May 31, 2006, 12:30:00 PM »
Well, I for one am saddened about your leaving.

I would like to say Thank You again for defending my daughters name, and her honor, the way you did here on Fornits.

Since Michelle died, and being thrown into the middle of the Teen Help Industry mess, I don't always carry a smile on my face.  Especially when dealing with insensitive people who don't get it!  But, each time I would read one of your posts, I would sit here at my computer and smile.  Grateful that there was someone out there who had a heart, and understood.

Thank You for being the wise young owl that you are, and for all the smiles

God be with you till we meet again.

Thanks Eudora, for slappin him around. I had requested the same. Many serve as excellent examples of a different way to be with distressed kids who are not yet at peace.

Your stories brought a lightness to an otherwise, sometimes, dark and dismal discussion. I was looking forward to future installments.

TSW, we'll leave the door cracked in case you ever change your mind.
Happy Trails

You are one of the people who brought genuine knowledge, wisdom and wit to the forum. I have learned from you and enjoyed your posts. There are not many people who can share the counselors perspective. Why don't sit back a while and regroup. I understand that your idealism may have been crushed by pragmatic realities. Don't let the duplicity of others deter your posts. Remember that you enjoyed being an advocate, and a voice of reason. You like to fight the bullies and protect those who have no voice. The reality is that their will be child abuse, until the day we die. Parents are always going to find a way to dump their kids. But "all that's left for evil to triumph is for good men to doing nothing." Take a rest, you will find your way back.

I really enjoyed your posts.  I find your anger and straight talk refreshing and am glad I found this site to vent.  Now I would really like some direction about where to go to do something about this mess.  I hope you post again sometime soon.  I searched out your posts because they really spoke to me. :scared:

Shit dude, what are supposed to do now?
I've been trying to get hold of you for ages. Shoot me an email or something, you've got my telephone nmber. Just buzz me and I'll get back to you.

If I am of the opinion that it is inexpedient to assign to the government the task of operating railroads, hotels, or mines, I am not an "enemy of the state" any more than I can be called an enemy of sulfuric acid because I am of the opinion that, useful though it may be for many purposes, it is not suitable either for drinking, or for washing one's hands.

I don't know what happened? But, sometimes we all need a break. He'll be back. We all get fed up, we all need vacations to have time to think, and sort stuff out........but we all come back.

What the heck was this all about anyways???? I haven't a clue, I have been gone myself!

Sure there are leaches here who'd like to make money at the expense of others.  We live in America.  We also have the right to call them out and make fun of them if that's what we have to do to make it through the moment.  Or we can log in anonymously and call them names we'd never utter around people we really know.  However you chose to cope, don't do it by being a quitter.  Vacation if you must, or scale back a bit, but don't quit.

And if you still absolutely insist on quitting (and I personally refuse to accept your resignation), please let us know about the incident and person in question.  We do not want a traitor amongst us hindering the good work being done.

Hey TSW, I am sorry your faith was shaken but happy too that Eudora talked you into leaving your work for others to read.  I?ll be hoping with the others that you will be back and we will leave the porch light on for you.

10 years ago there weren't any advocates.  The earliest I can remember is Teen Liberty @1998, Alexia Parks who wrote a book that even now, still serves as a reminder to beware of the teen help industry. Should she have been crucified?

The new generation of advocate websites consist of ones mostly run by survivors and parents of different programs (WWASPS, MMS, Thayer, etc)

This is a very good thing - critical mass is building.  People forget the more radical watchdog websites weren't even around 5 years ago.  And that several really good advocacy websites disappeared, presumably after being shut down by lawsuits they could ill afford (Boarding School Truth, remember that one??? Always wondered what happened to them) and a couple of others, I can't remember their name.

So maybe there are a few problems with the new crop but in the big picture, it's not gonna matter.

The truth still keeps marching on.

The song rocks

If you think about it, it's the ones who have the most to lose who have the cajones (bankroll) to put the pressure on the "good guys" driving some of them offline or underground.

Yeah, I'm talking about the fucking programs, themselves, and their sleezy network of referral agencies carrying their big sticks threatening to sue anybody who dares to stand up to them. And, Hell, let's not forget ST, the home of the program apologists and program recruiters POSING as parents.

Sad thing is alot of the advocates depend on donations to keep them going, when these wealthy WWASPS parents think nothing of spending 50k to lock up their kids in an abusive program, then when they find out they were scammed, go running to their lawyers seeking a "refund" and punitive damages, only to never be heard of again (not talking about the ex-WWASPIES who have spoken out and continue to do so).

A few bad apples in the bunch is bad news but not lethal to the cause.  They will reap what they sow.

We all know the bad apples, but who are these good apples we keep hearing about?

I can identify with TSW's frustration immensely.

I can think of several, all of the anti-wwasps websites run by survivors and parents, for one.

CAFETY is another good one, run by volunteers, many of whom are program survivors.

There's only one watchdog group I can think of, that watches ALL programs, not just WWASPS and that's ISAC.

No Spank, is another good one.

Guess it depends on what you are looking for, industry watchdog groups, anti-wwasps, or the reform oriented websites.

And let's not forget FORNITS and the Straights.  They pretty much got the ball rolling in the first place and are still HERE.

 :nworthy:

That's weird, maybe he doesn't know about Whitmore?  His website is heavy on the anti-spanking and boot camp issues as I recall and he's been around a long time.  Maybe someone should give him the heads up?
