WENDY MCCANTS, Foster home owner:  "In the 1600's they used machines and torture treatment, now they've evolved into a little pill that's doing the same thing on children?.It is over 30 years of research that's been done and that [CCHR is] making the headway.  I feel that CCHR is making the difference."

Dr. JOHN FRIEDBERG, Neurologist:  "Well what I've seen and heard tonight is inspirational  that as many people feel similarly to myself, it is encouraging.  [CCHR is] the only organization that is doing anything.  I am a doctor who has written on the subject of psychiatric abuse.  I wrote a book, Shock Treatment is Not Good for your Brain, I have criticized drugging children for these mythical diseases of hyperactivity, but when I look around for help, there is none like the cavalry-CCHR."

IRENE CRAWFORD, Associate Minister of First American Methodist Episcopal Church, Los Angeles:  "I think psychiatry is obsolete; I think it should have never been and I think it should be abolished.  Somehow we have these men playing God and as a minister, I am certainly not in agreement with that, yes, we have no place for psychiatry in our society."

Psychiatry has no place in our society? How can you take these people seriously when they say stuff like that. I have been locked up in psych facilities and there ARE crazy people on this planet. NOT your kid who doesn't pay attention in school, but the kid who DOES see cartoon characters and colors that aren't really there.

I've met a lot of schizophrenic adults who are able to live normal lives because of medication. Without it, they become driveling and paranoid. So I think there is a place for psychiatry.

It's the drug companies who make shitloads off their 'designer drugs' like anti-depressants, ADD and cholesterol. But they really helpful drugs aren't talked about. Do these people think schizophrenics should have to make do without their meds? Who are they to say that? They are no less crazy than any other fundamentalist group who wants to push their beliefs on the entire society.

This is a pretty sad, self serving statement.

It is quite common for the mentally ill to turn to God, and church's, when becoming ill.

Many, many church's say to just pray. If the symptoms don't go away, then they blame to poor bastard that is suffering, and tell them they are not walking right with God.

Then either they, or their families, have the wherewithal to go to a doctor, or they get so sick they have to go into a hospital.

For the most part, going to a church, just causes the patient to lose valuable time where they could be stabilized and start their recovery.

Perhaps it is church's that are obsolete!
