From what i understand, Ms petes late husband died of some form of osteosarcoma(bone cancer). She rarely spoke of this and was obviously a deep scar on her big heart.
for all the "bad experiences"people think or may have had with her, she was really a good person, and some whom you could confide in.
MUCH OF THE BULLSHIT was caused by other powers at hand (IE Greedy board of directors, venice hospital, others ).These powers took her time away from counseling, and put her in the office doing 100 pages of paperwork for Everything. She stayed late many nights a week for parent conferences, staff conferences, many times till early morning.
For all my shit i had to endure in LIFE, Ms pete most times was a good voice of reason and common sense. MOST of these changes came from 1988-90,
"When the JCAH (joint accretidation, something and Hospitals)
Please have some respect for her , and her late husband. Whoever he was, he was LONG gone way before LIFE
"Harbouring hate, resent and not forgiving , only brings negative feeling to ourself"
HIS HOLINESS, THE DALAI LAMA

Let me get my 2 cents in here...Listen to me, I don't care about all the "good" things she has done. She's a human being. I think all humans do good things as well as the "bad". I don't think there is anything positive about the "LIFE" program except for all of us "survivors" out there who made friends going through this F'up rehab. The bottom line is this...Ms. Pete was Executive Director of that Shit hole which puts her in control..in charge. She allowed all the abuse to go on in there. She was breaking the law left and right and with no care in the world. In her mind, this is how it had to be. The result...many damaged lives are out there. Some committed suicide, some in jail, some still wonder to this day why they had to go through that shit.
Asking to have respect for a woman who gave no respect-consideration to children restrained to the floor, restrained on the church pews, locked up in the in-take room for hours-deprived of all of your basic human rights....I don't think she's EARNED THAT RESPECT.

True, Hampton  I agree with you. What do you think about people who were under 18 , on staff, trainnees, staff apprentice, who were most certainly abused, tortured, scared into perpetrating it onto others, to a point we all were complicit in the abuse, at what point do the aggressor, and victim become the same person ? I was forced to work there, I told mspete, everyone I wanted to quit, was hating it.
I think I may have stayed on staff  until just after 18 , cause i knew they could, would not put me back in, cause I knew too much.
I wish there still was a LIFE program sometimes, so I could get an attorney and sue some one, but I cant .

Guester, well I think...it was horrible for what WE all went through. I'm sure being on staff was just as difficult. You had to lead these groups..to lead these peers..be aggressive to get to the youth's most inner deepest darkest feelings--emotions. You were trained if the child was resistant to use what ever force was necessary to break them.

At times you gained "our" trust...you were our peers only difference was you were leading us. We opened up to you

I think we all were dished the same abuse, some more than others. It's terrible thinking about those days but this is a good place to vent your feelings, you think?

I wonder how much she 'remembers' about Bobby Ruggles (?)

I may have the last name wrong but the stories are the same, save varying degrees.  And this kid got it baaaaaad.
