Finally ISAC has some documentation to support Discovery Academy being placed on the "watch list"
The documentation aspect is important and lends credibility to ISAC.

Here's a newspaper link about a staff at Discovery being found GUILTY and SENTENCED for raping a girl in the kitchen at D.A.

Court briefing for 10/9  PDF   | Print |   E-mail

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Daily Herald
SENTENCING: A mental health worker who had sex with a 16-year-old female patient was sentenced Wednesday to a year in jail.

Orem resident Joseph J. Butler, 26, pleaded guilty July 25 to attempted rape, a second-degree felony, and making a written false statement, a class-A misdemeanor. A plea bargain reduced the original charge of first-degree felony rape.

Fourth District Judge Gary Stott ordered Butler taken into custody immediately. He said Butler could have work-release privileges after serving 180 days but also must enter the jail's sex offender therapy program and register with the state as a sex offender.

Butler had sex with the patient in the kitchen of the Discovery Academy, a private mental health clinic in Provo, said Sherry Ragan, chief of the criminal division in the Utah County Attorney's Office. The girl had gone to the kitchen for a drink.

According to the jury that convicted a D.A. staff member of rape and the judge who sentenced him to jail time, this is not alleged.  It has been proven in a court of law that a D.A. staff member raped a girl in the kitchen at the facility.

Unfortunately, the discovery-academy-forum.com has disappeared.  There were hundreds of posters and the moderator confirmed that all pro-D.A. posts were made from the same computer at the program.  Some complaints listed were that a boy was raped with a broomstick, that a staff member was convicted for raping a girl in the kitchen, that the education was horrible and consisted of filling out packets and taking multiple choice tests, and that horrendous abuses occured under both the new and old administration.  It would be nice to use this forum as a site to discuss Discovery Academy while that site is MIA.

You won't know unless you try it. I would contact the parents and, as calmly as you can, tell them why you are worried. Show them that there are places like Fornits where these schools and centers are discussed. Often the parents don't hear a negative side about the schools, only that the school will "fix" their child. Educate the parents!

Unless you have something to fear from your friends's parents, I would go to them..perhaps with your parents, do you talk to your parents about these kind of things? You should always speak up if you feel the need.

Also, check this out, and show it to them. http://www.isaccorp.org/documentsam.html#da You will find Discovery part way down the page.

Try not to see adults as an enemy, plenty of us are with you all the way. Good luck, my fingers are crossed for you and your friend

Thanks for the advice, I want to gather as much info as I can to support my position about removing him from this school.  Any ideas where I might find additional info?

well, what I would suggest is a negative search in google. I made the tragic mistake of not researching one of these schools negatively from the start. When it was too late, and I did, I found alot, including this forum.

I would try something like: "Discovery Academy" problems

or -   trouble "discovery academy"  -things like that...the reason I call them negative searches is the use of words like trouble and problems, they have a negative connotation in general.

I have found putting the school in quotes does a better search, regardless of how good Google is without them.

If there are too many results, throw Utah into the mix.

It is wonderful what you are trying to do, someone has a damn good friend. I am rooting for you guys.

forgot this:
Additionally, use neg searches, and places like this forum and others, to get a general overview of these schools, not just the one.

The parents need to know the school may NOT be the answer, they aree generally approaching the problem from a positive view only. I know I did, I will never make that mistake again. It hurts lives.
