some how found some memories of my own on the cable tv last night.  "The story of metal, HEAVY", on VH1.  Took me right back to my early days; those days known as the days before $tr8.  Scenes of my own history played out on the tv before me, within the context of the broader story.  Was real interested to see that they traced the beginning of metal to Black Sabbath.  Yeah.  That made me proud.  Proud as hell, man.   :rofl:   I never knew that Tommy Iommi lost 2 of his playin' hand finger tips workin' on a sheet metal cutter the day he was supposed to join the band.  I never knew he played with these home-made prosthetic finger tips!  That's why their sound is so unique!!  Man, that's fuckin' amazing!!  And hearin the whole story about the Birmingham scene.  Iron Maiden breakin onto the scene back in the late 70s.  Fuckin Bad, man.

I feel somethin whenever I'm reminded of how my whole life was taken from me.  I remember my early days; the days before $tr8 with a certain vengence.

I had heard about the thing with his fingers. It does seem to have a unique effect on his playing somehow. Then there's that song they have called "A Bit of Finger."

Yeah, but I need that old shit you got!  Sad Wings Of Destiny, The Ripper...I used to have that old Priest on cassette tape back in the days before $tr8.  'course that was all thrown away.  I had Judas Priest recorded live at the US festival in like 82 or there abouts.  Had it on vinyl.  It was them doin Freewheel Burnin on one side and You Got Another Thing Comin on the other(I Think?).  I had alot of obscure european imports in my collection.  

I'm goin to the flea market in OH this Saturday and I'm gonna get me all the Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Motorhead, Dio, Metallica, or Scorps or any other old school metal on vinyl I can find.

A live Fugazi show from 1988 in DC.  also A live Warren Zevon show from London around the same year.  Listened to some Hank III on there, too.

Check out archive.org and go to the live music archives.

Some of the stuff is barely listenable, so search around.  Soundboard sources can often be flat sounding, and may need some EQing, audience sources can be good or bad depending on the equipment used, the venue and sound mix, and the skill of the bootlegger. Look around, though, there is some really good shows oin there.
