Same here. I can still remember playing my dad's Beatles 45's on that thing. It was grey, black handle, speakers that attached on the sides with hinges. I eventually accumulated a lot of my own 45s, just songs that I'd hear on the radio and want to have to listen to.. "Swamp Witch" had to be one of my favorites of that stack.

I had that one on 45 as a kid, Jim Stafford, right?  Another 6year old RTP (I was so cute then, the horns had just sprouted.....) fave was "Convoy" by CW McCall.

Just listened to Coltrane again.  _A Love Supreme.  Yeah.  It's Tough.  Pursuance.  2nd time I listened to it.

I see your Coltrane now.  So I actually went out and bought this shit brand new!!  So as I'm listenin' to it and rollin one up I'm thinkin' about the board 'n' all...

Frod knows the 1972 Yes record I've got right here.  Recorded on the 1972 tour.  So yeah, I think it's all live.  I'll have to listen to it again as well...

The Coltrane was cool though...Part 3_'Pursuance' got my attention in particular.  A lot of things come to mind... How things are related...how divisions are created...how one thing becomes another...the drum heads become bass strings that vibrate the air and are felt on the drum of the ear... all sound is a vibration in the air...

I got that other Monk and Coltrane on now_At Carnegie Hall...

You should check out the CTI Summer Jazz series.  I'm tellin' ya.  George Benson, Milt Jackson(vibraphonist from Modern Jazz Quartet), Freddie Hubbard(trumpet) and Grover Washington jr.(sax). with others.  Recorded live at the Hollywood Bowl.  Doin "Inner City Blues/What's Goin' On" by Marvin Gaye and "California Dreamin".  There are no vocals.  George Benson s guitar does the singin'...    

I don't know...like '76 or something... 'cause 'member we were talkin' bout the difference between Coltrane and Benson an'such...I was sayin Coltrane was too spacey... but I hadn't heard _A Love Supreme yet, when I wrote that.  

I'll see if I can get a link up for ya or somthin.

O F&*%.  I fail at the internet.  I can't find a good link(I'm not really tryin' that hard but I know where all this will lead).

You have to just take it upon yourself to find CTI Summer Jazz (series), "Live One At the Hollywood Bowl" catalog #7076

They are different styles of jazz, but both great.

Yeh, that was Jim Stafford & that had to have been his best song.
I liked Convoy a lot too back in those green years; I recall that I used to 'act out' that song with matchbox cars, etc.  ::alieneyesa::

I heard another song by Harry McClintock, "Halleluia! I'm a Bum!" on the radio a few weeks ago, it was a great old hobo song.  Ol' Harry had soul, yes he did.  Gotta love "Big Rock Candy Mountain", too; the soundtrack to that movie is incredible.  Do you know who did the song the sirens sing to the main characters, and what the song is called?  The one with the line You and me and the Devil makes three.....?  Another great one.

I think you would like Modest Mouse, Pirate, they are amazing musicians, and witty lyricists, that album in particular has a very psychedelic vibe to it.  Good stuff.  White City is good if you're a big Townsend fan, otherwise skip it and get Empty Glass instead, or better still, get the reissue of Live At Leeds by The Who, it has about twice as many songs on it as the original release.

Live At Leeds has been on my list for a while.  I'm not a big solo Townsend fan though.  He's alright.  The Who's bad.  Aint there a "Who Live On the Isle of..." Wight or Man or somethin' ??  That sounds good too.

I don't really know what you mean about sending me the playlist.  I don't see how that will help, as I've already read the post.  You pro'ly think you can just send me a youtube account or something, but see, I'm workin' off this ol' beat up computer that my sis gave me a few years back.  I can't watch any videos or hear any sound.  My emotocons don't even move or nothin.  I'm barely able to post.  Sooner or later this ol' thing 'll just quit altogether.  I guess that's when I'll start hookin' up this other one I got sittin' here.  Anyway, is that what you meant ??

I was hoping you had a youtube acct.  If you can't watch vids on your machine it wouldn't do much good though, would it?  Some cool stuff over  there, hopefully it will stay up and still be accessable when you get a faster computer.

I'll probably go look for that Hollywood Bolw record at a record store a friend of mine owns.  He trades in vinyl and CDs, so a good browse of his stuff would be in order.  Haven't been there in a month or two, either, so I should go there this weekend.

Yep, that was the song I was thinking of from O Brother..., thanks for the info.  I also like the version of "O Death" they used.

I like The Who a lot, I'm a little lukewarm about Townsend solo myself, but there's some cool stuff out there. Just not as .....exciting(?) as The Who.

It too listened to those kids songs that were mentioned. I have a Jerry Garcia CD called Not For Kids Only and I have a lot of Pete Seeger stuff. My kid met Pete a few times as we are members and volunteers of the environmental group he started called Clearwater. So, my kid likes his music. They sponsor a folk music festival every year.

I have been listening to a CD called Phillip Hole, The Singing Grave Digger. The singer, Rick Nestler, is a friend of mine. We met through Clearwater. Google it for reviews. Our favorite song on this one is Old Woman from Wexford;

He also sings Rosin the Bow on the CD.
