If you would have justice in this world, then begin to see that a human being is not a means to some end.  People are not commodities.  When human beings are just to one another government becomes obsolete and real freedom is born; SPIRITUAL ANARCHY.

...So anyway what I wanted to say was :  Heavy loss, Sid Barrett.  Spent yesterday raisin my glass and playin my Pink Floyd records, throwin' my own personal wake...

Meddle
Animals
Wish You Were Here
Dark Side...

Unfortunately I don't own any stuff of Sids.  The day I was at the flea market where I get a lot of my vinyl, I searched thru the "just in" box that sits right next to the cash register, ya know ??  Then I turned my back to go and seek out the records on my list and when I returned to check out, some other cat was pullin some ol' Sid Barrett record out of the "just In" box!!!  I guess it must'a' snuck in right after me!!  Anyway, I wanted it but the other cat got it.  I forget which one it was now.  Can you believe it !!!

Rest in Peace Mr. Barrett, ...You shone like the Sun...

I forget exactly how it was that I got turned on to Syd Barrett. As a youth I was only familiar with the later Pink Floyd stuff. But I recall buying a copy of "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" in 1986 when I was still in Reptile House. We used to do a cover of Lucifer Sam (my idea).

Now I remember... My girlfriend at the time (who was 4-5 years older than I was) had a couple of early Pink Floyd albums that I loved to listen to over and over again when I lived with her... They were "Atom Heart Mother" and "Umma Gumma". These were 'post-Syd' releases, I think, but really piqued my interest about the early stuff! This music was genuinely psychedelic compared to the later Pink Floyd was with all of its synths and what-not... So that's what led me to go to the record store to look for more..

I've got some early Floyd (featuring Syd) & solo Barrett in digital format if you'd like me to send it to you.

Hot Fucking Tuna
« Reply #756 on: July 14, 2006, 03:32:11 PM »
Caught Hot Tuna down in Tampa last Saturday, it kicked ass, acoustic set then electric, so I got to see a lot of cool electric stuff I'd never seen them do before (I've seen these guys about twenty times since 1986, the last time was in Orlando in '91 or so), "Hit Single #1", "Soliloquay For Two", "Bowlegged Woman, Knock-Kneed Man", "Funky #7", "Talkin' 'bout You", plus some old faves, "Sea Child", "I See The Light", "True Religion", "I Am The Light Of This World", "Too Many Years", "Trial By Fire", "Been So Long", and of course, "99 Year Blues".   They had a mandolin player and drummer this tour, Jorma's definitely put on some weight, still plays like a mutherfucker, but seemed like he was holding back on some songs and letting the mandolin player take some of the leads.  Still a very enjoyable show, ran into some friends I had not seen in almost twenty years, were does the time go?

Pirate, I know I've been waaaaay slack 'bout getting you those electric Tuna boots, there's been some dispute over T-shirt sales that has caused the delay........try to get 'em to ya soon........

So other than the live show, here's a bit of what I've been using as a soundtrack for my recent brain-damage sessions:

Pink Floyd--"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (for Syd, RIP)

Pink Floyd---"Lucifer Sam" (ditto)

Pavement--Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (cool 90s indie stuff)

Clutch--Blast Tyrant (fuckin' YEAH!!!!)

Hot Tuna--Hot Tuna

Funkadelic--Tear The Roof Off.....'74--'78

MElvins--The Crybaby (third of a trilogy, w/ Hank III, other guests, good shit)

Brian Eno--Here COme The Warm Jets

Pinback--Pinback(Psychedelic indie stuff)

Radiohead--OK Computer

Bloodlet--Entheogen  (Psychedelic hardcore? from Orlando, good shit)

Queens of the Stone Age--Rated R

Estradasphere--Buck Fever  (expiramental)

Plaid--Remixes (electronica)

IK7 Records sampler--(downtempo electronica)

Minutemen--Double Nickels On The Dime

Tomahawk--Tomahawk9rockin semi-expiramental stuff, Mike Patton)

LEd Zeppelin--PResence

Burnt By THe Sun--The PErfect Is The Enemy Of The Good (metal)

Joe Walsh--"Turn To Stone" (his coolest work ever)

Damnation AD--"No More Dreams and Happy Endings"

Eek-A-Mouse--"Ganja Smuggling"

NWA--"Gangsta, Gangsta"

Ween--"Thwe Grobe", "Spinal MEningitis Got Me Down"

Prince--"I Wanna Be Your Lover"

Pixies--"Hey", "In HEaven"

[/i]

Have you seen the live DVD they released a couple of years ago?  Good shit.......the Danmark TV concert footage is fucking insane, this DVD made me remember why I liked Led Zeppelin in the first place.  There's also aa few songs from their show at Knebworth in 1979 just before John Bonham's death, they do some stuff off of In Through The Out Door, and a ripping version of "Nobody's Fault But Mine".
