Urge Overkill - "Back on Me"

ZZ Top - "Cheap Sunglasses" (live)

The Kinks - "20th Century Man"

Damn, FrOderik, you are on a Muswell Hillbillies kick.  Somewhere, deep in my parent's basement, is a cassette recording made with a boombox of me kicking out the jams on "20th Century Man" with an Alvarez acoustic and singing in my high-pitched, 13 yr. old voice.  When I heard it years later it was sloppy but goddamn, you could tell I meant that shit.  As Roger Daltrey said, "I'll take a bum note with a bead of sweat over a perfect but uninspired vocal,"

The first real "big" concert I went to was the Kinks on the Give the People What They Want tour, at the Capital Centre in Largo MD.  We were short of recreational chemicals, I think all we had was speed, way too much speed.

It was a great show.  The thing I remember most was leaving in my buddy's lemon-yellow Beetle, stuck in a huge line of cars trying to get out.  I was all jacked-up, and I crawled out of the passenger's window and screamed "Day-O!"  It sounded like 500 people roared it right back at me, which was cool..  God bless the Kinks and their fans.

Listening to:

Robyn Hitchcock - Invisible Hitchcock
The Figgs - Banda Macho
Robert Pollard - Normal Happiness
Argent - the Collection
Nektar - A Tab In the Ocean
Brian Eno - Here Come the Warm Jets
Robert Fripp - Exposure
Howlin' Maggie - Honeysuckle Strange
The Velvet Underground - Peel Slowly and See
"Between thought and expression,
lies a lifetime, la-tee-ta-ta-ta...
[/b]"

And there is something on the wishlist I saw at the Disc Exchange in Knoxville - an original vinyl version of PIL's Metal Box, in the film can.  I couldn't part with the $55 for it, and I regret it.

Chrisgoes had a blog where he uploaded his enormous catalog of out of print and obscure psych/prog albums for D/L.  I would never have heard T2's It'll All Work Out In Boomland if it weren't for his generous sharing of his catalog.  The blog's down now.

I can't remember the guitar player's name in Groundhogs...Tony McPhee, I think.  The guy has a unique tone.

Damn!  Sorry I missed that........

Peel Slowly And See includes two of my favorite Velvets songs, ever, three if "Hey Mr. Rain" is on that one (as well as VU or Another VU, I forget which one), "I Love You" and "Temptation Inside Your Heart".  "I Love You" is Lou Reed as his lyrical slyest, is he being sincere or sarcastic?  I still can't tell....  And "Temptation" is the coolest riff ever, I can hear where Television got the riff for "I See No Evil" from.   Good shit.

"I know where temptation lies,
inside of your heart,"

(New York buildings are very tall...)

(Electricity comes from other planets)"

That's a funny take, with Sterling Morrison (?) answering his own questions on the overdub.

I never thought about "I Love You" as being sarcastic, I was more familiar with his later solo version.  I think you're right, though..."But for now, I...Love...You", implying it's just a temporary thing.

"Ferryboat Bill's" an odd lyric, off VU2..."Ferryboat Bill, won't you please come home...your wife has married a midget's son...and that's the long and short of it"

I saw Bjork live at the Shoreline last night.

Awesome show.

Great seats.

Best 90 bucks I ever spent.

I remember Bjork from her days in the sugar cubes.  She 's an artist I always liked but still never got any of her stuff.  I wonder if you'd care to elaborate, try another castle, on the show...you know...like what the atmosphere was like, how the scene was and how well she performed.  Curious.

If you would have justice in this world, then begin to see that a human being is not a means to some end.  People are not commodities.  When human beings are just to one another government becomes obsolete and real freedom is born; SPIRITUAL ANARCHY.

It was an amazing show. Outdoor venue. Great set. An entire brass section. A bizarre electronics section with equipment I've never seen before. (They showed the gear close up on the monitors.) She looked fabulous, as always. The woman doesn't age, and her voice is as powerful and as moving as ever. I actually started to cry when she sang All is Full of Love. She danced around like the Icelandic faerie she is, and wore something fruity, of course.

She played stuff from most of her solo catalogue, although I don't think she played anything from Debut, if memory serves. Most of the work was from Volta, her new album, but she played stuff from Post, Homogenic, Vespertine, etc. My friend was bummed she didn't play anything from Selmasongs, which was the OST to the film Dancer in the Dark. (Have you seen that yet? If you haven't you MUST GO WATCH IT NOW!)

I myself don't have all of her work, either. In fact, the only album I have of hers is Post. I'm lazy that way. I've heard mixed opinions as to what her best album is. Some say Homogenic, others say Vespertine.

Speaking of Sugar Cubes, you want to hear a great lineup? I have some old documentary footage of the Pixies on the road in 88, from one of the DVDs I have. They showed them performing at a music festival in Germany, and the lineup was, I shit you not, The Sugar Cubes, The Cure, and the Pixies. Fuckin' A man. I would have killed to have gone to that show, but aw, shucks, I was trapped in some crazy place in Idaho. Not sure you've heard of the joint.  :P

Thanks for the review, try another castle.  Sounds like it was a real good time.  Maybe I'll go hunt up some sugar cubes.

Peace.

nice.

Listened to some Beethoven and some other classical composers over dinner, I was a guest.  I requested Mozart's Requiem... uhh, but there was some confusion about it's whereabouts...nice evening in western PA.
