Okay, okay.  I do recall about one or two staff at Provo Canyon who really were decent people (in particular- they didn't seem to feed off the childrens' fear, they didn't seem to get off on instilling fear).

One of them was in school (I think) to be a social worker- her name was Allison.  We weren't all that close or anything, but looking back, I see she was the only unit staff whom had any semblence of professionalism.

The rest of them were pretty sick...in my not-so-humble (but nonetheless), PROFESSIONAL opinion.

By the way, I once had a psychology professor who told us that she believed that people who seek out jobs in prisons have "something wrong with them to begin with".  I think she wrote a thesis about it or something.

There are people working at these facilities that do care, that aren't "uneducated Hicks", and that would like to make a difference in a kid's life....I was one of them and I know a few more."

This sums up the whole point.  Yes, there are people who care but they are derided by the programmies, then they leave.  so people who care don't stay, therefore the value of their caring is nullified by turnover.  i've said this all along.

People who are caring, competent professionals simply DO NOT STAY because the job conflicts with their values, both professional and personal.  Since they cannot change the system, they are compelled to seek employment elsewhere.

This is my story too.
