How was LIFE started
« on: December 13, 2005, 10:18:00 PM »
From what I understand from Dr. Burns cir. 1980 Straight Sarasota. The LIFE founders left STRAIGHT during the Miller-Burns Fight and they split due to EGO. Burns actualy started the "Celeb" visits and then Mel Jumped in w/ Bigger Celebs but all in all Helen got mad b/c she wasnt recognised for her "WORK" at STRAIGHT and was mad at the fact that she was treated like a high school drop out/ nobody, she was fighting w/the STRAIGHTLING STAFF ect and left or should I say RESIGNED after an arguement and went out got a small business grant and brought her friend/parent croonies w/her to make a "BETTER" "KINDER" straight like program. The problem was that SHE realy only started another straight but made it her own with her rules and her ideas.
Now I was a STRAIGHTLING so I am not too sure how accurate or how close to the truth the story of LIFES begining is but I heard it from DR Burns himself while I was on the phone talking to him about STRAIGHT and LIFE and why he finaly left all together.
Would, Could any LIFERS who were there in the beginning please clarify this for me.

Two points of addendum. Both the celeb visits/endorsements and Helen Peterman were holdovers from the Seed.

The legislature is to society as a physician is to the patient. If a physician ignored side effects of medications like today's legislators ignore the side effects of their legislation, the physician would be accused of malpractice. I accuse today's legislators (with rare exception) of legislative malpractice. Many of the ills that are so obvious in our society are a direct result of previous legislation. Their solution? More laws!

I was the FIRST,non Straightling male, fresh off the street,to enter the LIFE Program.

At this time,St Petersburg Straight was in trouble for punching kids in the mouth, and Sarasota Straight was getting bad press for abusing children,so Miss Pete and a small group of "kids" departed Straight and formed LIFE,in an old "gay bar" (kind of "roadside tavern")that sat across the street from where the LIFE building sits today.
The new building and parking lot were made by people who owned construction companies and had their kids in the program (Mackie Construction,Earl Collins Paving,Dooley/Mack Construction, just to name a few).
The Original Poster, sammieslut, facts are also true.

No, LIFE opened just before Sarasota split off from St. Pete.

I have no clue how LIFE started, I know how it ended though

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought it was public knowledge, my apologies

They got bought by Venice Hospital.  VH turned them in to a sort of medical/outpatient program.  One of those drug dependency type programs that most insurance will only cover for 30 days at the most?

It ran like that for I think 4-6 months, maybe a bit more, then VH realized they could just do it better if they kept it at their own facility on the Island, and shut it down.

If I remember right, the reason they bought LIFE to do it was so that they could use the name(in Venice, at that time, you'd find that LIFE was actually a pretty popular place) and I think they even kept a few of the executive staff on..

I don't know all the minute details or the maneuverings behind the scenes and such, but that's why LIFE as we knew it shut down, and then eventually why the building became a consignment shop

DAILY,we were reminded by Petermann and others that "Straight is bad,but LIFE is good".
Maybe there WAS more violence at Straight, and more strengent rules about "sitting properly in your chair",but the fact that we were living in host homes and being at the mercy of our oldcommers(MANY of them from the Straight Program) made being in LIFE just as bad as being in Straight.
I was there from the first day.
Maybe the "kindergarden" you enjoyed was at a later time.
LIFE was bad!
Why should you try and compare and say that one program was "easier" than the other?
You probably think that JEW SUFFERING is more legitimate than other people's suffering?

Why do you begin your sentence with the word "NO"?
I have read your comments on the other "blog" and I have to say that you speak like Bush or Hitler or The Chinese Government.
The Chinese always like to say things like "Taiwan blah blah blah,AND THIS reflects the will of ALL Chinese citizens, blah blah blah".
Thats what your crap comments sound like.
YOU are a 7stepping piece of scum and you need to STOP speaking for "us" and speak for yourself.
Go fuck yourself Antigen!

I read "the other NATIONALLY KNOWN blog" and Antigen,3 TIMES, provided a direct link to http://www.thestraights.com and praised it as a great place to find facts about Straightlike programs,WITHOUT ONCE mentioning http://www.fornits.com,a more reliable source of info.
Why Antigen is hawking Wes Fager's MISLEADING website to the public as a good place for info!
Anybody who knows nothing about Straight, and looks at Fager's site for insight, will think we are ALL crackpots.
Fuck you again Antigen!

Man...

I sense a little hostility here!!
