Ya do in Tibet. Oftentimes brothers will marry one woman.

"The FARC is part of the history of Colombia and a historical phenomenon", (President Pastrana) says, "and they must be treated as Colombians". ... They come and ask for bread [aid from Washington], and you give them stones.

Well, those Utah women need to wise up, and get some Tibet men in Utah. Enough of those men having wives all over the place waiting on them hand-and-foot, and being little breeding machines!

Polyandry, form of marriage in which a woman has more than one husband or mate at the same time. Two principal forms of polyandry exist today. Among the Nair people, who inhabit India's Malabar Coast, a woman may marry several men of equal or superior rank. In areas of Tibet, a woman may marry the eldest brother of a family and then also take his brothers as mates. In most countries, polyandry is illegal.

You go girl.

Interesting note: When Elizabeth Smart disappeared, I TOTALLY called it. I wrote in my online journal "I have a feeling she's alive, and some crazy polygamist kidnapped her to be his wife."

Polygamy is often the result of a poluation crisis. After a large war, or something else that causes many deaths, especially males, the imbalanced gender gap needs to be corrected some how, and sure enough our societal tendencies start to shift to fix the problem. At a worlwide level, the female population is several percentage points above men, but other times throughout history, especially when parts of the world were more isolated, polygamy became an accepted practice to ensure the survival of the species. Sure, it's 'weird' now, but it's all about perspective. If there were 8 woman to every 1 man on this planet right now, I'm sure states, religions and society in general would find a way to make acceptable multiple wives. Not saying I accept it, especially by today's standards, but it's just something to consider.

I'm all for whatever consenting adults choose to do. Some of the problems, as it's practiced by Mormons are young women forced into marriage to older relatives, unhappy women on Prozac to remain productive, parents assume their children are 'superior' and expect tax payers to assist financially, high incidence of child/sexual abuse:

The mainstream Mormon Church _ LDS DO NOT practice polygamy - and haven't done so for over one hundred years. The ploygamists in Utah are a break off cult of the mainstream church. I worked with a man from Nigeria who told us that he had 10 wives and was marrying number 11 in one week. He was Muslim. So it's the Muslims that have many wives now - not the Mormons.

Religion is comparable to a childhood neurosis.

Polygamy is widespread throughout Africa and the Middle East. Not only in Utah.... Please.....

Speculations on the Origin of Human Intelligence: "In defense of the Pygmies, perhaps I should note that a friend of mine who has spent time with them says that for such activities as the patient stalking and hunting of mammals and fish they prepare themselves through marijuana intoxication, which helps to make the long waits, boring to anyone further evolved than a Komodo dragon, at least moderately tolerable. Ganja is, he says, their only cultivated crop. It would be wryly interesting if in human history the cultivation  of marijuana led generally to the invention of agriculture, and thereby to civilization.

So, if people in the Middle East and Africa do something, that makes it excusable to happen here?  Have the middle East and Africa set the new bar for us?

Well, I spent a year and a half in Utah, and I'll just say that I'm sooooooo thankful that I'm from the East coast.

The issue isn't really polygamy. It is that these cult-like Mormon sects are forcing teenage girls into these situations. It is really a form of human-trafficking and pedophilia.
