I Am Powerless Over Drugs
« on: September 21, 2005, 11:20:00 PM »
I got a DUI, not because I'm irresponsible and a selfish prick who doesn't care if I endanger others, but because I am powerless over drugs!

I beat up my girlfriend while I was high on cocaine and she was mouthing off.  I didn't do it because I'm a stupid asshole who can only deal with things violently, I did it 'cause I'm powerless over drugs!

I stole money from someone to pay for my meth, not because I'm a shithead that has no respect for other people's property, but because I am powerless over drugs!

I have to disagree with this statement.  ::crybaby::

I wonder if anyone was ever bold enough while misbehaving to sing this.

I condemn false prophets, I condemn the effort to take away the power of rational decision, to drain people of their free will--and a hell of a lot of money in the bargain. Religions vary in their degree of idiocy, but I reject them all. For most people, religion is nothing more than a substitute for a malfunctioning brain.

I sent my kids to an abusive drug rehab, not because I'm a failure as a parent who was too lazy or incompetent to raise my kid so I just dropped them off with the lowest bidder, but because they are powerless over drugs!

It's funny how assholes in AA or NA use this excuse for their behavior.  Too chickenshit to take responsibility for their actions, they blame the drug they were doing, or some mystical notion of "powerlessness", taking the blame off of themselves.  "The Devil made me do it".

I joined a 12 Step group after getting out of Straight, not because I'd been brainwashed to believe I had a drug problem or anything like that, but because I am powerless over drugs!

I have to disagree with you on your point of view here. This is a misconstrewed notion that this is an excuse or copout, however when I was cought in the grip of active addiction I done a lot of fucked up things to support my habit. My mentality was getting, using, finding ways and means to get more. When I got clean I had to accept responsibility for my actions, however fucked up they were. However now that I am not using, I am responsible for the way I act and the way I react. And I will have to say that the fellowships of AA or NA is a program of freewill change unlike the hell we all went through at Straight. I try not to ever push the fellowships down anybody's throat nor do I try to push my beliefs on anyone, however I did feel the need to have some free expression on this rebuttle.

The Constitution of the United States is a law for rulers and people equally in war and peace. And covers with the shield of it's protection all classes of men at all times and under all circumstances.

So if you "accept responsibility" for your actions while you were actively addicted, how can you say you were "powerless"?

Exactly! Note the double speak. I'm tired of people doing terrible things and then using the excuse "oh I have a drug problem."

You can not graft a new idea onto a closed mind.

Fear believes--courage doubts. Fear falls up the earth and prays--- courage stands erect and thinks. Fear is barbarism---courage is civilization. Fear believes in witchcraft, devils and ghosts. Fear is religion, courage is science.
