I have a confession all...I am also against sex. I have not had any sex in over 17 years...I belong to SA (SEx Anon) and I think all sex is bad...

So I would be VERY upset if any of you internet hotties PM's me and forces me (I am poweless over hotties) into giving you my address. It would be horrible for you to come to my house and tie me down and endoctrinate me into the Monkey house. ::dove::

My big beef w/ the cult is that it's strongest proponants insist that it's not a cult while making public policy based on their dogma.

I am down on AA/NA because it seems to short change folks by selling them on yet another adopted belief system that creates yet another false dependence. All the while perpetuating  the idea that that is the experience of sobriety, spirituality, love, god, etc. I just think it?s sad that so many members of that particular cult believe that is all they are capable of. I think it is almost shameful to lend your shoulder to the turning of that wheel.



Hearing about it on this forum and seeing it defended here of all places is especially disappointing since the survivors of fundamentalist corporate cults, of all people would hopefully be less likely to perpetuate that whole trip.

NA/AA/other forms of stepcraft have all of the earmarks of cults-- Religious orientation; irrationality; rigidity; dogmatism; anti-
intellectualism; a charismatic leader (Bill W[ilson]); a heirarchical authoritarian structure; submission of the individual will to "the will of God"; a claim to the ultimate truth; separitism
(us vs. the world mentality); exclusivity (only through us...); self-absorption (primary focus is on the cult itself); economic exploitation; going to great lengths to retain members; mind control techniques; intimidation; manipulation through guilt; threats of death (Big Book predicts it for dropouts and nonbelievers); harrassment; deceptive recruiting techniques; closed, all-encompassing environments (treatment centers where people are deprived of all non-cult reading material, contact with family or friends, or telephone access), etc.

AA/NA/Stepcraft-of-all-types are by the above standards, most definitely cults.
