It is disheartening especially when you read articles that clearly show that some of the kids were abused, neglected, and denyed medical care. Otherwise, those kids would be alive today. There are some that just tear you up, like the one in the wilderness program that kept telling them he was sick but they wouldn't believe him. Instead they made fun of him and let him defecate on himself. They humiliated him, and they let him die. Then they panicked. Fools. Horrible human beings who should not have access to chidlren. there are too many people workign at these programs who are not qualified, who are found off the streets with nothing more than a high school education, if that.

You know....It's the business, there's a lot of $$$$$$$$  in the industry.   So, lets keep our kids in home and love them, listen them and ask for their friends... they won't look outside anything they have IN home.

One death is one death too many but if you wanna blame anybody, blame the lawmakers who did not make killing a kid for profit a criminal offense.

Count carefully. O.L. That list came from CAICA's site, and very little of it's accurate. The best arguments against programs always come across as weak in any mainstream venue because of stuff like this. A lot of them aren't true, and they're just alarmist. Not real good for credibility.

Have you read the account of Ian August's murder? He was my neighbor.

Damn, the link to court testimony no longer exists. Does anyone have a copy they could post? It's a lengthy doc, but needs to be available to the public.

Not to discount the other deaths, by any means. These were just 2 of 40 some at wilderness programs. The accounts of everyone will bring a sane person to the point of rage.

The death of that boy at Obsidian Trails (William Eddie Lee) was restraint-related and yet some parents actually posted on ST that they thought the program was safer as a result of this tragedy.  Others pulled their kids.  

That same "mentality" still exists today and I would love for some shrinks to comment on WHY any parent would feel comfortable leaving their child in a program where another child died?

It's twisted.  But then again, letting a program continue to operate after a death is insane.  The program should cease operations during an investigation, not be allowed to continue operating (e.g. Ian August).

Some just go out of business only to be reborn under a different name.

So, I'm curious about what the anon from Sept. said. Why is this list not viable? What isn't correct? And if it isn't, where can one find a comprehensive list of deaths?

I'm also of the opinion that if it's on CAICA, it's suspect, but I'd like to know more details.

The other issue, of course, is that Izzy is notorious for ripping people off and not having an original thought in her head, so who is to say she didn't rip the list off from somewhere else in the first place?

I'm not sure what exactly is incorrect, but I did notice some omissions or lack of information. John Avila's cause of death was not listed, yet it is common knowledge that he hung himself. Several other deaths were also not elaborated upon. In addition, I am wondering if there were ever any deaths at Whitmore? If there were, one can speculate that they were omitted intentionally.

Anyway, I would like to hear more about the origin of this list, if anyone has any info.

There seems to be alot of deaths involving restraint.....God this is so sad, these are little children  :cry:

CAICA's death list was turned into a memorial showcasing photos of the children alongside such "advocates"  as Isabelle and Sue Scheff.  Yup.  That's right.  Wanna see a picture of the great Isabelle Zehnder and Sue Scheff?  Just click on the Caica "lifetime" memorial.  The height of arrogance, exploitation and hypocrisy IMO.
