Boycott of gasoline - September 10
« on: September 01, 2005, 07:51:00 PM »
Sick of the neverending price hike of gasoline - it's time to boycott....September 10 - please pass this on....

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT
PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL
COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER
4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE Sept 10TH, 2005 HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT TO THEM DAY"
AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT
DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY
PEOPLE A S YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT
GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT
THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE
SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE
FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS
SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES
ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE
WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS!!!

Web pages are like babies -- creation involves a level of enthusiasm that does not necessarily carry over into maintenance.

I'm game - but ya know - we tried this back in the 70's when the price wen't from 35 cents a G to 55 Cents - then took a leep all the way to 70 cents a gallon!
I was working in a printing house at the time as a press operator. We printed up many hundereds of flyers for the "To Hell with Shell" campaign.
Can't say it did any good - but it felt good.
But this is the age of the internet - and maybe That will make a difference.
Like I said - I'm game.

I wonder if there's any effort afoot to change the taxing structure from per dollar to per galon? That would help reverse the federal incentive let it fly away, I would think.

I had this email sent to me and while I think it has good intentions I don't see it as being very effective. Boycotting gas for one day is really not going to send a strong enough message. Especially since many will just get gas the day before or the day after.

A bigger statement would be for all of us to cancel our car insurnace, refuse to drive, take only public transporatation and refuse to buy any more cars.

However we are very dependant on our cars and I don't even know how much of this I could possibly do. I live in car factory country and they sure make it hard for decent public transportation to be a viable alternative in these parts.

am looking for people who survived Straight in Plymouth, Michigan. I miss a lot of people there and wonder what happened and would like to stay in touch.

This might be a really good time to pitch the city council to improve the bike/hike corridor through town.

Carpooling works.
Wouldn't it be great to see stop and go traffic in the HOV lanes?
Lengthy article on which companies were hit hardest. Hit em again with a boycott before and after the 20th.

Industry sees 'significant and protracted' storm impact

GREENWIRE
OIL AND GAS
Thursday, September 1, 2005 -- UPDATED 3:35 PM
Daniel Cusick and Ben Geman, Greenwire reporters

Confirming the offshore oil and gas industry's worst fears, the Coast Guard reported yesterday the loss during Hurricane Katrina of at least 20 platforms or drilling rigs from production sites in the Gulf of Mexico -- a fact that shook energy markets already reeling from supply and distribution problems.

"They just aren't there, so that means they are either off station or they are underwater," said Petty Officer Bobby Nash, a Coast Guard spokesman in Alexandria, La. The tally of lost platforms and rigs is based on fly-overs by the Navy, Coast Guard reserve, commercial pilots and offshore firms....

So, I wonder how much crude is seeping into the Gulf right now? Invest in mineral spirits in So. Florida. There's gonna be a lot of tar on the beaches for awhile.

I wondered about that Ginger.
The Husband tells me he thinks they probably cap it off and pump the lines dry, before evact. A friend I was talking to about it said the same. It makes sence. Seems like if they didn't do something like that, the spill would be headline news by now for sure.

Of course they are using the huricane as an excuse to raise prices over $3.00 per gallon. It's absurd. Having a boycot is a good way to show them that we are outraged.

Gas is not a right, it's a commodity and should be charged what the market allows. Should the government subsidize gas? How would that work?

If Americans didn't want gas, they wouldn't buy it. They choose to use it, you could say they are addicted to it. The US uses 25% of the worlds energy, with barely 5% of the population. Something is wrong there.

Gas SHOULD be more expensive, but of course they'll keep it down. They want us to spend all our money at their corporations, not on gas and food.

Are you joking? Surely you're kidding. It works something like this:

Quote
Fossil Fuel Subsidies:
A Taxpayer Perspective

Cut fossil fuel subsidies...
As a first step toward action on climate change, the U.S. should cut over $5 billion in annual subsidies to the fossil fuel industry.

Eliminating subsidies for oil, gas, and coal can attract broad political support because it will save taxpayer money, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and eliminate obsolete government programs. Cutting government support for fossil fuels is a common sense idea supported by economists, climate scientists, international organizations, and free-market activists. Taxpayers don?t need to wait for international negotiations.

Congress and the Administration should act immediately to cut fossil fuel subsidies

http://www.taxpayer.net/TCS/fuelsubfact.htm

And that doesn't even mention the Elephant in the room; our military intervention around the world, austensibly for the benefit of brown people w/ oil under them.

This is why it drives me NUTS that so many people accept w/o question the absurd notion that bio-fuels and other already available alternatives are more expensive than fossil fuels.

If you want to look at it a little less capitalistically and more spiritually, remember that we don't inherit this planet from our ancestors, we borrow it from our heirs. For the last 100+ years, we've been spending irreplacable energy savings instead of living within our yearly budget.

All religion is dumb. It's one big story they're feeding you so you'll  behave on Earth. If there is a god, then he's a prick.
