midwest and many other of the faciliteis are not at all abusive and you should not believe everything you read on the internet. I was there for almost a year and was never abused and never wtnessed or experienced anything but care/ love

3 Full time staff members at Midwest Academy including Howard V. were placed on the State of Iowa Child Abuse Registry in February 2006 as a result of an Iowa Department of Human Services Investigation of their actions towards at least one student who is my son. I believe this facual circumstance could be representative of the short comings of the entire organization. Make your own judgements. Interesting that Midwest Academy is not a licensed or registered school in Iowa. It exists based upon the homestudy program of the local Keokuk High School. You have to wonder what the connection between the local High School and Midwest Academy actually is.... And why. Midwest Academy exists because it is an unregulated facility in Iowa with no external supervision or licensing. Just ask for proof and you will find out just as I did. Don't take their word for it.
Just ask who the credentialed teachers and administrators are, how many credentialed or simply college degree carrying teacher assistants there are for the total number of students and you will learn pretty fast for yourself what this place is... "a warehouse for kids" owned by an organization that markets to desperate parents" is my opinion.

Located in Keokuk, IA in a former retirement home. the kids were like zombies. Pale, lethargic, I wondered if they were "medicated". counselling is done mostly in groups via TV modules-- little people contact. The girls (which I visited) were not allowed to wear shoes- they could be weapons. School was on computer-- a "teacher", who was more like a jailer to me, supervised the room. Very little interaction with the "teacher". They were not allowed outside for several months, and only then in a small enclosed courtyard. I only saw two male staff members and one female in my quite lengthy visit. I would not send anyone there.

Hello I am a mwa grad and I agree with whoever said that this place is a hellhole. Something you probably don't know is the scandal that happened there around May of 2006. One of the students was having sexual relations with one of the nurses and yes I mean intercourse. This is not the kind of place you want to send your kids. Thanks for sharing about your experience. Parents do not realize the truth and even when former students speak they refuse to see it, but the more ex wwasp prisoners who speak out, the more the truth is becoming clear. I was at SCL in Montana and my female family rep was also having sex with the teenage boys in the facility. I think these kind of places attract sexual predators and such. Hope you stay around and post about your experience.

That is not the only flaw if you have ever taken a guide through the school the people there would tell you that your children are in a safe invironment. But the verbal abuse that goes on there is a different thing. The kids and the people who watch your kids may poke fun constantly at kids especialy those who are not moving through the program as fast as others. And don't think that your kids aren't doing drugs. A group of level 4,5and sixes broke into comfo. (where they keep kids things that they brought with them like drugs.) and got a bunch of pot and ciggarets. And smoked it. Also when I left in 2006. More and more kids were trying to commit suicide and at least once a month someone was getting sent to the psych ward. Most of these kids would go back and forth from mwa to the psych ward. If you have kids who are not popular at home there going to have hell in mwa because essentially it's just a popularity contest to see who porgresses and who doesn't in the families and especially in the dynasty family (The upper level family.).
