To clarify:
There was a documentary aired circa 1983 on PBS called "Children of Darkness." It described various treatment facilities for mentally ill and emotionally disturbed teens. While it featured a segment on Elan, it also featured segments on mental hospitals, autistic teens and children who die in psychiatric facilities for unexplained reasons. I used to have a copy, but I think I've since misplaced it. Elan is portrayed in the movie in a depressing light and a runaway forced to wear a rabbit suit and leg shackles is featured prominently. But some rather innovative treatment is shown, including "primal scream" therapy, one of the things Elan should have kept in concept, in my opinion.
Now, moving forward: Earlier this year, there was a documentary about Elan called "Number 5 Road" in the works. The partnership, which I once belonged to, was subsequently dissolved and although a few interviews were shot, the movie was never made. There's been many bitter words exchanged about the movie and I do not wish to relive those times. I put my best foot forward to help make a good, fair movie; unfortunately it didn't happen. I've moved on and I'm sure others have too.
