I AM STRAIGHT
« on: May 15, 2002, 02:20:00 PM »
...."I am Straight,
hear me roar in numbers too big to ignore..

And I know too much to go back and pretend...

'cause I heard it all before and I've been  down there on the floor...

No ones ever gonna keep me down again....

Yes I'm wise but its wisdom born of pain....

Yes I paid the price, but look how much I've gained....

If I have to, I can do anything....

I am strong, I am invincible, I am Straight...

-Song sung every Friday before Open Meeting

yeah...

Hey look me over, Over hill over dale, we sung those mostly before rip raps....

I just find it ironic that the words in that Open meeting song have a whole new ironic meaning and perspective now than they did then...

That song was originally bastardized at the Seed.
Replace I am straigtling with I am seedling, and you get the idea....
I hated that bitch Helen Reddy ever since forced to sing that song with that phony enthusiasm we used to have to muster up. Not only that, I sing like shit.
Seriously, ever since those days, I hate being in any organized group, church, clubs, whatever, they all creep me out.

the one I've always hated the most has got to be:
Straight is IT
the free-est place we've ever found
Straight is it!
the one that never lets you down
Straight is it
the most refreshing place around
Straight is it!
(to the tune of "coke is it")
it's just irony upon irony. surely this wasn't just a cinci. thing?

90% of them were lifted directly from the seed, like almost everything else about the straight.

aaaagh. I had forgotten most of that song but now I remember it all too clearly.  I have a theory that those song were to keep people from being able to think clearly enough during the breaks to know what was happening to them...god awful method of repression.

I got sat on for that one. Thanks Doug H.
God, shall I now puke?  True that on the Helen Reddy associations too. Christmas Carolers have dissapeared after knocking on MY door.
So here is another "jerk classic" from 1981
Zippin' a do dah
Twistin' a Jay
Put me on the girls side 'cause I wanna get laid....
Love you group..
BILL
PS>>> HOW ABOUT "GOING BANaNAS??" hopefully that didn't get passed on forever too....

How about "alice the camel"...used to request that song every time that Alice staff member was in the room.  Think she married William Rollins; bet that was one ugly marriage.

That bitch Alice sure did marry William Rollings. I was on first phase when she came into group wearing her wedding dress with her boobs falling out all over the place - telling us about "saving ourselves for marriage" and how if we work our programs "we can have what she has". I remember thinking "bitch, I don't want what YOU have."  LOL

I still remember those stupid songs, they treated us like we were a choir sometimes and that we had to hit the notes just perfect.
I remember once I stood up and sung like Ethel Merman (at the time I could make my voice sound just like hers) I was nervous the whole time, but I got a standing ovation.

Remember having to flap your arms around so you could request a stupid song. I use to pick 9 to 9 just for the irony. My mom came down from Orlando when I first made second phase and we stayed at Todd Toth's aunts place in Treasure Island. I remember one day coming out and seeing Alice and William Rollins right after they got married. For some reason I was always afraid of William and later I found out that he works as a detective for the Sherriffs as an investigator espessially in drug cases, scary thought. Also, remember Jim Sailor, later I found out he got into the adult porn business. Remember Mark McGire or something like that he married another chick that was a staff member. I got all sorts of stories and it is facsinating hearing about old names long forgotter. Sorry for getting off the subject, Zippedeee dooooo da, another song.

Jim Sailor:He was very kind and decent to me on more than one occasion.  I dont recall him being one of the nut-types on staff.  Well, Rollins is a drug warrior?  I respect nobody who wears a badge to enforce unjust laws.  Cops are an interaction I cannot avoid in my work at times, and I have gotten to know a few.  Most are not smart enough to critically think through the laws to see the people they affect.  A porn star or producer has a higher place in my book, as that is a man who says, this is what I do, and I won't let you stop me. You don't have to buy his product.  More satisfaction at the end of the day for Jim knowing the straighty laced types rent his flicks on the sly then William can get knowing he stopped another ounce of pot and probably ruined some guys year for it.
Hmm

Back to the flapping arms thing, we needed to do that constantly (except in open meetings, guess they didn't want the parents knowing about it). Anyway, both my middle fingers on my hand are bent in an awkward way when I straighten them out, guess that tells you how messed up things can still be physically, mentally and emotionally today

That essay reminds me very much of some of the introductory posts from former staff members. I wonder if Rollins might ever read this forum or Mr. Cole's essay.
