What do you think happens after you die?

Do you think you cease to exist or that you remain you somewhere else?

Either way I guess it doesn't matter, something got me thinking about it the other day. I can't remember what happened before I was born so it can't be any worse than that.

Who knows, but I was just pondering this the other day -- what a strange, beautiful, and horrifying reality this is that we're stuck in...

Personally I think we are eternal beings.  I believe there is more to us than just organic material.  There is a spiritual component as well.  And I think that this spiritual part of us continues on ...

When my grandfather was dying (of lung cancer) he would have moments where he had 'visions' of things that were quite clearly not 'earthly'.  It was beautiful ... scary ... surreal.  But, his experience was clearly real to him.

It was that experience that has left me believing there is more out there than meets the human eye.

I'll be pissed as hell if there is no afterlife because I want to see my dead cat again.

My mother had a near death experience and reports actually the fairly typical bright light, warm love feelings. She told me about it and it seems like she really believes it and is more spiritual now than before. So I am not sure what to think.

Doctors have surmised that this is a common phenomenon when the brain is deprived of oxygen for an extended amount of time. I have a sinking suspicion that once you truly die, that goes away.

But of course, what do they know?

Well now - I don't know that I can agree with you there ;)
There are horses in Heaven - so why not cats and dogs and everything else as well?

And if God's eye is on every sparrow that falls - doesn't this indicate He cares about the sparrow - and so may it not follow that the sparrow will be in Heaven?

I could quote you some verses, but I must be careful - don't want to turn this in to yet another boring "religious" debate - as a favor to Fro ;)

But for those who might have an interest in the Christian perspective on life after death, you might want to read the book "Heaven"  by Randy C. Alcorn. Its a pretty good book.

people invent  death rituals and post life concepts like heaven/ reincarnation because it is comforting.

The Answer is
« Reply #10 on: June 24, 2007, 01:54:58 PM »
The answer to your query is well substantiated by extraterrestrial evidence. You know that light you see near death? It is Scotty's beam. When you go toward it, you are transported into another dimension. The Fourth Dimension.   There, you will be reunited with your dead horses and cats, along with your farty Grandpa, and together, you will roam the stratosphere of the planets in an alternate universe.

I hope this helps to quell your fears.

May the Force Be With You.

We will steer our coffins to the rendezvous having forgotten what a flower is because in fact there never will have been flowers.
