PORTER COUNTY
« on: April 13, 2007, 03:54:11 PM »
In response to the recent article about the commissioners trying,
without public advertisement, to approve the $200,000 for Pathway
Family Center opening:

If I were a Porter County taxpayer, I would be APPALLED that
my "leaders" were paying for kids to be systematically abused for
profit under the guise of drug treatment. Why do I even care? I live
in Virginia. That should say something about the seriousness of this
issue.
STRAIGHT, Inc. survivors tried to warn people up there about the
INHERENT fraud and systematic physical/psychological abuse that is
present in programs designed by and descended directly from STRAIGHT,
Inc. No matter what "they" say, it is a fact. It saddens and disgusts
me that adults elected by the citizens of Porter County would spend
such large amounts of taxpayer money to support this abuse. Is this
still going to happen after the commissioners have been presented
with clear evidence from knowledgeable and experienced experts on
this subject? Child abuse is a crime. Why are these program people
immune to prosecution and why in God's name are they being supported
by Porter County funds? This reeks of corruption and cynicism to all
ends! Shame on them!

There were virtually no public supporters at the public forum back in
January. The only folks that attended that meeting were Pathway
staff, clients, brokers, supporters, DEA etc... Where was the general
public? Porter County administrators are making a serious mistake by
giving Pathway $200,000 of taxpayer money. Paying for continuing this
legacy of abuse and corruption certainly casts shame upon each and
every person who supports it. It is time to remove the blinders.

if anyone else would like to join in the "next round" so to speak, now would be a great time. Looks like the above letter will go forward into publication at the Times sometime soon and I would imagine that it may evoke a less than warm response from the program and program supporter folks. Not that anyone should be obligated, I'm just doin this cuz I can't afford to drive out there again. It's a situation where something ought to be done on a much grander scale. Any suggestions? This is not at a school, it's the commissioner suits makin the decisions unbeknowns to the public eventhough it's the public who provides that money to the County through taxationl etc...

When counted against the buying power of Nineteen Seventies Dollars, 200K is chickenfeed.  Straight was started with a 25 thousand dollar grant.  What we need is to get ourselves heard or at least put the word out to the right people who have ears.  My bumper stickers are still in circulation and still quite effective.  I guess I am gonna have to find a liberal printer up here in Dairyland and see how many I can get for my dollar.

I still have the Straight Jam CD that was put out a few years ago.  Something like that could be the ticket.  They'll hold 72 minutes of music, or the spoken word right?  I think we should put out an anti-drug war CD.  I can't play all that well, but I'm funny as shit, other people can play better than me and write just as well as the next person.  I already have several song ideas I've kicked around over the years.  The beauty of making a CD is that the technology of the home computer has made it possible.  Virtually anyone can do their own monologue from home by using a 10 dollar microphone and making a sound file.  From there it can be sent to someone else, mixed, mashed, and inserted into a CD burner program maybe with music and stuff and then burned.  There are even places that will burn like 100 CD's for less than 90 dollars, and even include jewelcases and cover art.  For an initial investment of time and a hundred bucks,  a demo batch of CD's can be made and distributed at "Ground Zero" in Porter County, wherever that is.

Based on the strength and trendyness of the CD, the local teen population will do the rest.  IT IS CALLED BOOTLEGGING and I for one am all for it in this instance.  I  cannot compete with big money or corrupt politicians, but I can play guitar bad enough so that whatever I sing will rattle around in your melon like some fucked up soft drink jingle you can't get out of your head for years to come.

If people are serious and want to do this thing, I even have a landline and 10MB of webspace thatI can donate towards the effort.
The bumper sticker thing is do-able too.  The thing with the stickers is that they get cheaper as they increase in quantity.  Last time I had 1300 printed up and sent 300 north, 150 midwest, 200 or so at the conference, and gave out the rest over a three year period and I still have about 30 left.  If anyone has an idea for a new one, please PM me.

For all the Naysayers out there, please direct all your hot air to 37* longitude East and 43* lattitude North because it still gets down to the thirties here at night and I could use your hot air to cut down on my electric.

Inside a warehouse behind Tyrone Mall
we walked in darkness, kept hitting the wall.
I took the time to feel for the door,
I had been \"treated\" but what the hell for?
