I cold-called northwest academy
« on: April 09, 2007, 06:00:34 PM »
I was curious as to the changes, so I called.

1. Kids must go through some form of wilderness first, such as ascent.
2. Ulrich still works with them
3. The program is for one year, and you must be at least 17 to go.
4. Raps are called groups and therapists are present. Admissions says it's "not as intense", for what it's worth. She said that people "really don't understand that kind of thing." Also said that people didn't really understand the term "rap" so they changed it to group.
5. Fewer propheets because of the time a kid stays there. Not all were mentioned. The ones she talked about there were the dreams, the childrens and the IWTL.
6. They still do the I & Me and Summit
7. There are still watered down parent versions of the propheets (including the IWTL) The only difference being that they are now on campus. Less intense than what we went through, obviously, but longer than the old parent workshops from the 80s. Day, day and a half, about.
8. They now practice stepcraft.
9. Anyone remember Claudia in admissions? She was there in the 90s apparently. That's who I spoke with.

You can only decorate a twinkie so many ways. It's still a fucking twinkie.

BCA is packing with CEDU staff and getting consulting from Elliot and Powell...read Brandi and Jim (call me doctor) Powell.  Looks like a CEDU takeover  of UH.

Interesting theory, Benchmark incorporated stepcraft (a customized Benchmark copyrighted (literally) version), and also called raps "Groups", but they only started calling them "groups" once CEDU started to get a bad "rap"...   *ba da ching*  haha. ..  ha.  Oh that was a good one.  They told the parents it was AA, though it really didn't change at all from raps.. they didn't do meetings or anything like that.  A CEDU student once tried to ask "is that where they do raps" on a tour, Jayne responded in a hushed voice (i remember this so well since she was so odd in her response), "we don't call them that anymore"...  When Benchmark opened, though, they called it raps.

At least at Benchmark, groups were far more intense, and longer.  Morning approx 3 hrs, noon 4 hours.  it depended on your schedule, but if you weren't a class (doing "personal growth" for example (writing assignments, videos, "meditation", experimental mind-fuckery), you were in group.  I knew a girl at Bmark was went to CEDU and she said benchmark's groups were worse.  When programs say "not as bad" or "it's changed since you were there". you know they're lying through their teeth.

Yes... it's still a fucking twinkie.. most of the time they just bother to change the wrapper.

Same campus, yes, cow creek.

The only  mainstay as far as I know, besides some of the admissions people, is that dirty crooked bastard Dr. Ulrich. Claudia mentioned that if Mare were still around she would definitely be working with kids at NWA. I said "Oh yes, I heard about that, it's such a shame." I know a lot of people liked her, but fuckit.

One question I totally forgot to mention, to put her on the spot, was "So, why are the parent propheets different than the students?"

I'm sure the answer would have been along the lines of gearing it towards a parental perspective. i.e. let's not scare the shit out of our cash cow.

I'll probably be emailing Liz at rimoftheworld.net with my findings. I would think she would be interested.

Oh yes, and as far as ascent goes, she said that the final thing the students do before they get admitted into the program was climb some sort of 50 foot tower... I think with their parents.  aaaaaahhh... I have ascended...

Anyone up for the job of cold-calling BCA?
