HLA Is Broke and Now Selling Patients' Artwork for Profit

Not only are they selling kids' artwork for their own gain, they GIVE THE KIDS' NAMES on the website.

Making profit for themselves while destroying confidentiality for patients - how lovely.

Parents, are you aware that your kids' names are appearing on this website that names them as current patients?

This looks like their annual fund raiser auction to me.  Also, parents sign releases for their children's names to be published.  There are plenty of credible things to nail HLA on, you don't have to go fishing for stuff like this.  Gather you facts first.

One thing that does sound strange.  They say they are raising money through this for their "convocation center fund".  Is this the new name for the "chapel fund"?

yeah the same fund where they "lost" the first $250k donated by parents.

this auction IS a "credible" thing.  psych facilities should not be publishing the names of patients, period.  this is a clear HIPAA violation. oh, wait, hla isn't licensed as a provider, so they can disseminate protected information about their patients.  ah, the conveniences of running an unlicensed treatment center...  must be nice!

Subject:     Gift of Art
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;

Suppose a donor buys a piece of art for $1,000, and it appreciates to $5,000 over time.  The donor then gives the piece of art as an auction item.  Is the tax-deductible portion of his gift $4,000?  Further suppose that the donor then attends the auction, sees that his gift is not being bid on, bids $500, and wins the bid.  How does that affect the deductibility of his gift to the auction?

I was posed this question this morning and hope that someone out there has faced a similar situation.

Thank you in advance for your help.
