Damn what an awesome show!   Thievery Corporation opened the show, they opened up with "Forgotten People" and "Lebanese Blonde", and played an amazing set, including a cover of "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter".   Their bass player was phenomenal, and they had a sitar player for several numbers.

Massive Attack kicked down some of the finest trip-hop (or downtempo, or whatever.....) known to exist anywhere in the universe.  They had an incredible light show, at various points flashing the names of drugs in rapid succession, handgun death statistics world wide, costs of the Iraq and Afghan wars, etc.    At points, quotes from famous (and infamous) individuals were shown on screen, as well as some wicked cool graphics.

The Greek Theater is on the UC Berkeley campus, and from the top you get a spectacular view of the city lights.  The crowd was a good mix of all ages and several countercultural factions were well-represented.  A certain dilation was noticed in many ocular organs, and marijuana was smoked openly and frequently.   Truly an evening to remember.

well everey thursday nite I try to go do open mike at a local bar. Here is my whacko set list from last nite.
 1  Fearless Heart,Steve Earle cover,Kinda a "chick song"
2 Eurotrash Girl , Cracker cover and kinda an inside joke tween me and somebody I flirt with :nods:
 3 Dust my broom < platyed into> roll um easy, now dust my broom is an elmore james cover,and roll um easy is a little feat cover, I use a resonator style guitar on these 2 tuned in open d w/a slide.
  4 A song called "further" ( I wrote that un)
 5 I shut up and played "changed the locks" which is a Lucinda Williams cover,Woman Im seeing sang.( I like that part a lot).
 

       So needless to say it was a fun nite out, mellow too.  :cheers: Many free drinks as well! :tup:

A pipe-dream: If I could be anywhere at any given time, I'd attend one of these open mic nights where you play so i could hear you (where are you, again..FL?) If you travel you could visit and play the one I sometimes play at the bar & grill near where I am...Anyway, I started doing open mic nights about 6 months ago when we moved to this place.. it's honed my playing / singing skills with the cover tunes I get up and usually do alone, or with people on the spur of the moment, no rehearsal..lol.. As you know, standing up there and doing that by yourself is different than just standing there playing guitar in a band..

I've heard a version of "Dust my Broom" done by Hound Dog Taylor, recorded live...

I see you do a song by Cracker.. I'm into CVB..ever listen to their stuff..?

I know xactly what ya mean,to me open mike is just like me playing in my kitchen,(ceptin I cant smoke) Im outside chicagoville, theres 4-5 open mike nites w/in 10 miles of me,I do 2 different ones,one regularly ,one not so much. Its unlike band bs cause I dont take it seriously

Hardest part of open mike is keepin it fresh,and me sober! I keep working on Ideas of new shit to play. I LOVE to throw curveballs at the auidience,NOT play it like the original,or oddball combinations of songs.Obscure shit is real fun but real shaky ground too. Its gotten me away from being so "Telecaster/Vibrolux" dependant and back to playin acoustics pretty much full time,which I missed.Light tackle,or as I say "three fucking chords and the goddamn truth". :cheers:
