Morava
« on: October 11, 2005, 12:59:00 AM »
Is there still anyone around here that actually went to Morava before its closure? I've been trying to learn as much about WWASPS as possible, but it's been pretty tough to figure out what the deal was with Morava. Was it as bad as, say, Paradise Cove or Tranquility Bay? Any insight would really be much appreciated.

Wow, that is all some very disturbing literature. Absolutely disgusting is actually more like it. What I don't understand is what the hell parents were thinkinf sending their kids to the Czech Republic for residential treatment. Just baffles me. My heart goes out to survivors of Morava.

After the closure of Morava, in typical WWASP fashion, many students were transferred to Spring Creek Lodge and other WWASP programs. Its amazing that parents would send their child out of the country and even more amazing that they would transfer them to another WWASP program after such a closure.

Seriously. Any parent sending their child to the Czech Republic for 'help' is certifiably insane. Or extremely stupid, gullabe and rich enough to get REEMED up the ass by a bunch of swindling child-abusers.

Was Morava closed FOR child abuse, or under allegations of child abuse or none of the above?  Just sensationalized newspaper type reports?

Back when Morava was open, were there a lot of other "effective" alternatives? WWASPS has the best success and their program model is used by most of the other programs out there, so tell me the facts, not just your judgements or newspaper articles.

By success you must mean net income. (tens of millions $$$)

Otherwise you could provide us with some statistics which show their success rate, or what you use to compare programs....? .... we are waiting.

Model, huh? You mean jailing teens into submission over a long term period, until they cite the mantr to their parents at graduation, only to return ot their old behaviors once out of the program environment? Oh yeah, great model!

They were charged with child abuse and I believe "torture."

It was also noted that the two primary WWASP staff there were previously convicted of child abuse in Utah (imagine what fucked up stuff you have to do there to get convicted!).

Yeah, they're a GREAT program, buddy.

Yeah whatever happened to Glenda Roach and her husband?  They ran one of the first WWASPS/Teen Help programs in Mexico before it was shut down (Sunset Beach?) then they went to Morava.

This is so true. As a former student who watched a program director beat the shit out of a student, which was never reported. If this staff was actually CHARGED with abuse in UTAH out of all states, it must have been pretty bad and going on for some time.
