Look, let me make this perfectly clear.

Not long ago at all, a lot of people insisted that I ban this guy because he was making outrageous statements, threats, racial slurs and so forth. But I didn't think the threats were credible, neither were most of the smear stuff, and he wasn't taking down the server.

I didn't ban him when he started coming after me and I really don't think he'd dare touch my kids or anyone else's. That would just be plain stupid to say so and then do it. It's not asif I haven'g got reams and volumes of logging info that would trace back to him if someone with LE authority wanted to track him down.

I banned him for flooding. He was posting so many messages that someone on a dialup connection would probably not be able to spend the time to sort through all that to get at the conversation they were trying to follow. That's a crude form of hacking. That's my primary area of responsibility here; to keep the server up and running for ppl who want to use it.

If anyone else wants to flame me, please feel free, I won't ban anyone for content unless it constitutes a credible threat or other clear criminal act. I only ban hackers and out of control spammers.

But this is far from demonstrating that the authorities must interpose to suppress these vices by commercial prohibitions, nor is it by any means evident that such intervention on the part of the government is really capable of suppressing them or that, even if this end could be attained, it might not therewith open up a Pandora's box of other dangers, no less mischievous than alcoholism and morphinism.
