I don't know which Wilderness program the parent below is refering to, but I know the kid was sent to Utah. And perhaps the program has credentialed "professionals" conducting actual therapy, which might qualify for reimbursement from insurance. But,
It really irks me that a portion of MY premiums could be going into the pockets of program owners. That MY premiums could increase with the increased number of teens being incarcerated and reimbursed by insurance. That MY premiums are, in part, paying for teens to be abused in the name of therapy.
What is the criteria used by insurance companies to determine if a facilty/program is actually "therapeutic" or a "non-therapeutic behavior-modification" facility?
The latter term was used in the latest article from the Tico Times re Dundee:
http://fornits.com/wwf/viewtopic.php?to ... &forum=9&0How does the insurance company rule out the possibility that the kid is fine and the parents just want a break?
If the program is strickly BM, who wants to help pay for someone else's kid to be "parented" with "tough love"?

I had filed two appeals with my insurance regarding XXXX's wilderness program. My last move was to request all the info they had used. I've been waiting to recieve that before filing another appeal.
I opened my mail today and there was a check for the full amount from the program. I have no idea what prompted this (and I'm not going to ask), but my insurance paid the entire thing last week.
I had originally pulled the money from my farm operating loan. I just maxed out what was left and was wondering how the heck I was going to feed cows all winter with zero money. This check is a total livesaver!!! I busted out crying. I hadn't realized how much this has been weighing on me, but what a relief to have it over!!!!
If you are fighting an insurance company...don't give up. Take it all the way.
