Peer pressure at a Danish boarding School
« on: August 07, 2010, 05:01:56 AM »
In Denmark we have continuation schools for troubled teenagers, teenager of non-native origins where the parents find the Danish youth culture challenging and just teenagers who want an adventure. They are far from so strict as the programs here, but most of them don't allow the teenagers to smoke and they have to be sober while on campus. Otherwise they will be expelled.

Normally 10-20 percent of the teeagers cannot make it through a school year. In extreme cases a boarding school has lost 45 procent of its students, but the 10-20 percent is considered normal. In general parents are adviced to decide whether a boarding school is good for their child within 14 days. If there are signs of home sickness or other problems they should pull their child from the boarding school in the best interest of their child.

A boarding school  Holmstrup near Jyderup has decided to put some peer pressure on the students who are thinking of dropping out. If all students remain at the school for the entire year they will be able to travel to Cuba. Otherwise they will get a local wilderness experience instead.

School entices with Cuba trip (Poor google translate of an article from Denmarks Radio)

Can you imagine how hard the peer pressure would be on those who consider to drop out.

Man, I'd be arranging for the ones who want to quit to end up dead and make it look like an accident for a trip to Cuba.
