I do believe the winner of the first loony cult program prize does not actually go to Synanon.

If I'm not mistaken there were some oddball fundie x-tian programs "running thier shit" with Jesus before then as early as the 1920's.

I am thinking that it is going to be the Oxford Group where Bill Wilson (the founder of AA) got sober and started indoctrinating other people into his cult.

He would drag people out of hospitals, take him to his home (basicly like the oldcomer/newcomer thing), and proceeded to brainwash the poor soul with the Oxford Group's original 6 steps

We admitted we were licked.
We got honest with ourselves.
We talked it over with another person.
We made amends to those we had harmed.
We tried to carry this message to others with no thought of reward.
We prayed to whatever God we thought there was

The Oxford Group worked out of Calvary House / Calvary Mission where thousands of people passed through the mission where they offered lodging, free meals, and Oxford Group meetings every night.

This took place in the years from 1908 to 1935.
