hmmm...well, I can understand where the urge comes from...although you obviously are aware that its not a healthy urge....but MY question is - What exactly is WRONG with facial hair anyway?  I mean, is their some thing about it amongst young men that is like piercing your ears or getting a tattoo?

I am pleading ignorance here, but it doesnt seem to me that there is anything wrong with facial hair on a young man.  I mean, it naturally grows on mens faces.  What is wrong with that?  Its like being punished for reaching puberty or something.  Like not being able to tell your own mother that you started your period.  I dont know....

If it were me, I wouldnt even think twice about it.  It would seem riduculous to me.  However, I am pro-tattoo, piercing and whatever else.  I dont have any myself (cept one small tattoo on my neck)...but I am certainly not opposed to it.  I find some body modifications to be quite beautiful and I have trouble seeing the problem with it.  I mean, its purely an old fashioned taboo.

I don't know that I would choose those words to tell him I didn't like the way his facial hair looks.  One of the main objectives I have as a parent is to be able to communicate my thoughts and opinions to my kids without them feeling like I am putting them down in the process.  I am 36 and the first 3 conversations my mother and I have every time we get together are about my weight, my hair color and my cosmetics.  It is very tiresome and I have tried every approach to get her to understand that I don't want to talk about these things ...but she is stubborn and set in her ways.  I have found that if my kids feel like I am respecting them and taking their feelings and opinions into consideration, they are much more receptive to listening to my opinion on their choices.  Plus the fact that I truly believe stupid mistakes they make now and learn a lesson from are far less damaging than the stupid mistakes that they will make as they get older.  Let them mess up and learn the lesson now, instead of waiting until they are older and the consequences can be more far reaching.  Good luck...

My 13 y/o, @ 6', 190# has facial hair, and won't leave the house if it shows, by his choice.  If that changes, fine.  My rules are that he shall do as he wishes with hair legnth, fuzzy goatees, etc, as long as he looks nice and well groomed in his chosen look.  No purple hair, no mohawks, etc.  He doesn't steal cars, smoke dope, or run wild.
That is what matters.
