That particular bug is a supreme pain in the ass.  It houses itself in the main browser, creates a back-up for default, and even the space for a new one.  Simply pulling up Internet Options from Control Panel and 'right clicking delete' don't mean shit to this hijacker.  You have to use Ad-Aware SE or something like it and the trick is to do it OFFLINE!!!!!!  If you are still online, this sumbitch will find places to hide no matter what.  When you are offline, you can isolate the components and it cannot send out for "reinforcements."  I spent a whole damn Saturday afternoon one time chasing this little fucker out of my system before I realized it had replicated itself 27 times, 3 times for every time I had re-started the PC.
I think that the main trick is not to restart your PC.  This Trojan even has a fake window that pops up when you are about to kick it's ass that looks real official and say's "what do you want the computer to do?"  Just ignore the bitch and hit alt + F4, finish what you are doing and when you close out of Ad Aware or whatever, shut the whole PC down.  REMEMBER TO TURN ON YOUR MODEM, RE-ATTACH THE PHONE CORD, CABLE OR WHATEVER YOUR CONNECTION BEFORE RE-STARTING!!!!

After you power back up, do another scan while online just to make sure, but it is a good idea to set security way up on the fire-wall and Block every new connection request coming in until you know what it is and where it comes from.  I use Lava-Soft Ad AwareSE and Agnitum Outpost Firewall as well as Grisoft's AVG Virus Protection.  All of these programs are currently free.  Hope this was some help.

Inside a warehouse behind Tyrone Mall
we walked in darkness, kept hitting the wall.
I took the time to feel for the door,
I had been \"treated\" but what the hell for?

All good advice from 85DJ. And if Adaware doesn't do it, try hijackthis.

download spybot. Run the program. After this, use the immunize feature. Innumize on spybot PREVENTS much of this stuff from getting on your computer.

Spybot is free and has eclipsed Adaware and pestpatrol and is now the premier anti spyware and adware program.

Good luck. Also, before downloading spybot, go into control panel and delate all offline content and cookies and history from your internet options tab.

This should debug you.

Spybot is kinda over-rated, IMO. While it is loaded with some cool features, I've used it and have found that hijackthis picks up things that spybot somehow misses..go figure..good things sometimes come in small packages I guess..

that is common with all these programs. For instance, you can run adaware, remove spyware and then run pestpatrol right behind it and get hits.

The best solution is to have three or four of them and use them all intermittenly.

The best feature of spybot thos is the immunization feature.  This makes it stand out above most of the others. I run pestpatrol, adaware and spybot, but if I had to just pick one it would be spybot.

Hey Froderick, I downloaded Hijack this because I wasn't familiar with it.

It is a confusing download but once installed is a great utility.  I don't believe novice users should use it because you can delete things you shouldn't with it, but it is a really usefull utility. I picked up 13 registry entries cluttering up my computer that weren't picked up by ad aware or spybot.

I have added it to my other three anti spyware utilities.

Thanks for the tip!

"Spybot is free and has eclipsed Adaware and pestpatrol and is now the premier anti spyware and adware program. "

The immunization part has to be paid for.  You can scan and delete with the free version, but must upgrade to immunize.

not true, I just double checked by redownloading it and the immunization feature is still free.  Here is the correct link because there are a lot of fake links to other products.....maybe you got one of the copycat programs...
