Crazy rules and sipping deoderant with SD-40 alcohol...

Yeah, a lot of rules changed in the 90's and I heard that most of the ones you posted were in effect at that time in the 80's.
There were so many rules to remember, I could never think of all of them. But thanks for the info

I had forgotten most of these. You have, perhaps, the best memory of any one I have ever met. Do you gamble? You'd be a whiz at counting cards and thrown out of Vegas in no time.

You said, "No phasers in file room, staff office, or the executive area without staff permission- I do not recall any phaser ever entering the staff office. Phasers who self withdraw or were being terminated would get one on one counseling with the clinical staff. No phaser had any reason to enter the file room. "

Dring my time on the phases, Dean Keenan would let me come into the staff office during the early AM when he'd open and I was the only 5th phaser in. It was like being in the inner sanctum.

While on staff, I was on the 3rd and 4th phase team. I decided to see where the 4th phasers were actually sending their time. I had two or three 5th phasers go through the permissions and help me compile a list of 4th phasers and the permissions they went on. Then I crunched the numbers. The results were quite interesting. Almost all of the 4th phasers didn't take their days off. This was especially true for the girls. Some of them had used only one or two days off. Only a few people had used all their days off. I presented this to my exec., a Mr. Mayfield I think, got a lot of atta boys. Can you believe in all the time ATL had been open this had never been done?

I got all the 4th phasers together and gave them my results. I informed them that they had days off for a reason and that I really didn't want to see them in the building on them. Lots of supprised looks to say the least. After this I noticed their stress level went down a great deal.

Such as lifting weights till 3rd phase- in my opinion, they didn't want 1st phasers getting strong enough to cop out! I believe that was the intention for this rule.

Not allowing your parents to know what foster home you are in- This was a dangerous rule because a few times my oldcomer did cop out on me and we ended up with no oldcomer the next morning, we were sent back to the building.

Correction in Straight Plymouth on wearing items- 2nd phase I was able to wear a watch, and belts. We were allowed to carry very little money I think it was something like under $5.00 but I didn't even bother with that because being on 2nd phase where else was I supposed to go other than my own home?

The beltloop rule was no longer enforced after June or July of 1990, they found out people were giving others "wedgies" or such unpurposely and if an oldcomer was beltlooping a newcomer, they could be sexually molested and the oldcomer could "enjoy" this too much and indulge in it. So they started the rule as to put one hand on the shoulder and be escorted that way, too many people copped out because of this, I can tell you.

No animals in the building- there was one newcomer who was legally blind and wasn't allowed to bring her leader dog, I think that is a disgrace. She couldn't even see to write her MI or walk around with an escort as to where she was, she had to trust everyone and she couldn't even read the 12 steps on the wall to memorize them. A lot of people chewed her out in group because of this.

After 2nd phase we were able to use things with alchohol in it as long as it was the 5th ingredent and beyond. This rule was applied for the oldcomers to search over the ingredents and use thier discression as to wheather or not to allow the newcomers to use these items. I think it was because too many things were now being used with alchohol and the parents were complaining that it's litterally impossible to buy shampoo or deodarant without some sort of alchohol in it.

No knives, scissors or sharp objects- some oldcomers used these items to cut paper or use a knife to cut food. This is impossible to not do this because some of these tools are needed for daily usage.

If this rule was enforced I can assure you, I would never have shaved my legs in Straight.

There are too many rules to go through, but these are some of them that I went through and read

Hey Anon, I can't believe that you remember all the rules!!!  Surely you've had them written down somewhere for all these years.

I had forgotten how people would freak out about being near people of the opposite sex or going to a restaurant for the first time.

Worst thing for me was having my new boyfriend drive me back to Straight to pick up my clothes after I had walked.  I was so sure that he was in cahoots with staff and that I was going to be restrained once we arrived, drug back into the building, started over and back on 1st phase.

And Clay, about your comment with 4th phase girls not taking days off.  When I was on 4th phase, I had no car and there was an extreme shortage of girl hostparents.  I can tell you that 90% of my days off were taken with me sitting on a curb behind the building writing my 4th step.  I had sat in the building for 8 or 9 months, and wasn't going to waste my days off sitting in group.

I think that for some of the girls, the building became a protection.  We were told so often in girls' rap about what using drugs would do to us and how guys just wanted to use us.  For the younger girls it was like a security blanket.  But for me it was a prison.  Growing up on a farm, I was always allowed to just roam the fields or the woods.  My town as a child was so small we didn't even have a high school or post office.  And I hated being in the group room.  When the kids from school would come in and motivate, the stench was smothering.  So I spent every day that I could with blue sky above my head.

Thats why i left my weed at school buried behind the Temp buildings..
I got dropped off 2 hours before school every morning...
There was a wooded area by the school and Id get baked there..
But I had already set mny plans into motion (working on the parents for my pull)
And I only ever saw one person get a piss test..

In a way it always amused me the way Id get ripped for this miniscule rule breaking..and theyd act like they "Knew everything" but I was getting stoned Monday thru Friday..and noone knew

See you could keep secrets as long as noone else knew them...it was when you had a Host brother witness something you reported it...

Everything I learned in straight served me well later on...Manipulating people...being able to read body language...Crying on command...
The ability to keep cool when being searched by detectives with $5000 worth of heroin in my posession....(My only downfall was trusting a woman)

So in a way I got the last laugh...
I wonder if that tiny bag of weed is still buried in that field?

(K)NOW F(O)REVER

Frozen moments in time,
Stopped hourglass,
They predicate, what you will know,
Dispositions lie within,
And so do we,
Don't want to run.
Don't want to hide,
Renounce the prayers for inspiration,
If you dictate what I will be
Then smash my face upon the concrete I'm weary,

I feel the stares piercing,
So sorry to soil your precious eyes,
Reflections spoon-feed you,
The bitterness and disgust that is me,
If you choose to reach out to lend to me,
I'll chew off your hand

I'm not beggin' for your fuckin' change
I'm not beggin' for your fuckin' change
I'm in touch with myself,
All alone within myself,
All one. Alone

Do what you will make it the whole of your law,
Burn down the faith that shadows life
And take a deeper look inside of what makes you
Pull down the shades internal light can be blinding
Brilliance
I'm not begging for your fuckin' change,
I'm just begging for a fuckin' change,
Complacence quenched of me

Lineage is ending

I am that, once was me, rising upward, guts wrenching
Sculpted cold, blistering, break the mold, sever me

Cut your throat, be the martyr, bitter pills, that we swallow,

Take me, chase me, swallow with me

Know, now, know, now

Inside of truth, coming to, close to me, ground consumes and embraces
me
Now forever

Born again,
I'm repositioning,
Self inside to self non-dimensional,
Lost to being,
I've recognized the cause,
Existence to come, alive now forever

I am once was
...that is me
I am once was,
That is me

I'm broken altered vacillating force,
Round square corners circles dance around wet figures,
Prisoner of time I'm no more,
Insight will guide us through the majesty of nothing,
It's like I'm touched with love by angel girl,
Let bastards rot in time for all their evil,
Let bastards rot in time for all their evil,
Let bastards rot in tim
