the old hackensack building
« on: April 27, 2003, 12:47:00 AM »
Seems odd, but i've gone back to the old kids building on commerce way. It is gutted and seems almost haunted, almost like it never really exsisted. No sign of kids ever being there. Although i know it was there, for i grew up there from 13 yrs old to 18 yrs old, 85-90. If I had the money, i would buy that building and turn it into a dream. A place where nothing but good happened. maybe a coffee house or something.

Last I was there in like 2001...It was a business - photo business I believe.  I'd LOVE to see it a healthy gathering place - but I think it is too out of the way.  Great idea!

There is NO DOUBT is must be haunted - if there is such a thing, and I believe there is - how could there not be an aura there? :skull:

Remember when Rich N. from El Paso escaped up into the roof of that building and hid up in the rafters for a couple of days before he escaped (or was caught I don't remember).  How funny.    I also remember Dr. Newton making us "scrub the carpets until they are clean or no one is going home at night".  What a slave driver.  Hire someone.  Spend some money.  Free Labor.  Any other memories of that building?

I believe that was Phil W. and not Rich N. that hid in the ceiling.

It was Phil W.(RIP).  I had the pleasure of recieving a phone call, from whom I don't remember, I went down to the building and started honking my horn until he came out, scared as shit and we drove off.  That was a thrill.

I was last at the Hackensack building in early '01.
River Edge, technically.  But whatever.
I stayed at the Best Western Oritani right on the other side of the plaza w/ the PAthmark and whatever else.  Don't stay there.  It's a shithole.

I walked over to 80 Commerce Way.  At that time it looked like someone was preparing to move in. There were cubicle divider panels, acoustic tiles, and shit inside.
It was at night and I was there on business, so I really didn't feel like skulking around a business late at night, possibly geting detained by any local John Q. Laws.

And yeah, it's creepy.  And yeah, the creek still smells bad.

I still remember what a thrill it was to make second phase and be able to do kitchen or bathrooms!!  Crazy.  It was such an awesome way to "avoid" ourselves though!!  The thrill you got when staff would come to the back of group and call people out for responsibilities...sickening that we actually LOVED cleaning bathrooms!

I also remember a big huge guy that looked like john goodman who played dan on roseanne...i think his name was john too...he wasnt there long...but i remember him sitting in the last couple rows of the guys side and being rebellious most of the time...then one day he booked for the back door there that we never used.  the big heavy double doors.  he hauled ass for the door and it took like 15 guys to hold him down!!  that took balls cause there was no way that big guy was running faster than the little guys...props to him   :nworthy:

I just remembered the kitchen ladies.  They served us lunch.  What were they thinking about all the arm waving and whatever else they saw?  I should have asked them to sneak me out or something.

The kitchen ladies were cool...Jane and I spent a lot of time talking. She even came to the new building with us????Wonder what she thought about this place, she saw enough to know it was f**Ked up !
I even called her after leaving. I called the building and Erin H. answered the phone. I asked for Jane and was patched through. I told her it was me and I could tell she was parinoid even talking to me. She said she could not talk to me because it put her job at risk. Crazy.
I think I got attached to her while in the kitchen because she was someone , somewhat normal.
What ever normal is ????
